Battle Mage Secrets - Gladius Cards Can Turn Battles Around!

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Melee Mayhem ruleset this time! This means Melee units can attack from any position. Prime use case for melee units with Bloodlust. Abilities take precedence where targeting is concerned.

It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Epic Fire card, Gorth!
image.png

My Gorth is currently at Level 2, but even at Level 1, it is already a very strong and usable card. With 13 HP, it is extremely tanky for a 8 mana card and with 5 Melee damage, there is a high chance that it will get at least 1 Bloodlust. Its key strength lies in 1 vs 1 battles, not many cards can outfight Gorth because of its high damage.

As usual, here's the lore for Gorth for your reading interest:

Gorth is the largest Gladiator who holds the professional title in the Moxian arena. He is a Cyclops hailing from the southern Burning Lands. Unlike most Cyclops who live there, Gorth has educated himself in the common tongue and even taught himself to read simple texts. Until he recently proved this to settle a bet between Relenor Cleaver and Kotriphus Bane, the Gloridax masters would not accept that a Cyclops could learn such skills. His ability to read has allowed him to learn ancient secrets of hand-to-hand combat, including those from Lyveria, Khymeria, even ΛZMΛRÉ. While most Burning Lands Cyclops are still crudely grunting and throwing rocks at distant prey, Gorth charges his enemies head on, swinging the massive hammer that he paid dearly to have crafted especially for him by the famed Dragonborne Smith of southern Praetoria.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerEternan Brune6

With Melee Mayhem in play, there's only two elements allowed for this battle and there was no hesitation in choosing Fire. Fire has a very strong set of Melee attackers, including some of the Gladius cards.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Forgotten One9

Forgotten One is more commonly used in Poison battles but actually it is also a strong Melee attacker on its own too! 4 Melee damage coupled with 4 armor and 8 HP is pretty tanky!

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Radiated Brute5

Radiated Brute is not the strongest card out there but it is definitely decent enough to make the lineup given my limited card collection.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Gorth8

Gorth is the trump card here, and being a Gladius card and capable of Bloodlust, it's hidden in the 3rd position to take advantage of the Melee Mayhem ruleset. Hopefully by the time it gets to the front, it has turned into a strong monster.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Disintegrator7

Disintegrator is almost a must have in any Melee battles. Of course this is not a full out Melee battle but the Melee Mayhem will definitely tilt players to choosing Melee cards.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Uraeus3

Some of the big cards have taken up the mana quota and with just 3 mana, there's Uraeus, which is good enough to deal 2 Melee damage.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Ferexian Hero8

Completing the lineup is Ferexian Hero, a strong Legendary card on its own.

  • Pre Battle: As expected, my opponent went all out on Melee cards and I did the same as well. I am not so familiar with the Rebellion cards so let's see what's in store for us.
    image.png
  • Round 1: My opponent cleverly went for my backline and I lost Uraeus as a result. With both teams fielding Disintegrator, it was my opponent's Tarsa that had the upper hand with that Melee attack boost. Still a long battle ahead of us.
    image.png
  • Round 2: My team huffed and puffed and we managed to clear that strong tank. Now we were evens at 5 cards per team.
    image.png
  • Round 3: I lost two cards in this round and it was clearly not looking good. Gorth hasn't gotten any Bloodlust at this point.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Finally Gorth got its first Bloodlust and we were clawing back in this hard fought battle.
    image.png

  • Round 5: Gorth scored another Bloodlust and we were turning this battle around. What a difference a Gladius card makes to the battle!
    image.png

  • Round 6: Alright we are cruising to a win here!
    image.png

  • Round 7: What a masterclass performance from Gorth!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? My cards this time seemed weaker than my opponent's lineup and we had to rely on our Gladius card Gorth to save this battle. Seems like Rebellion cards are pretty strong and it's definitely something useful to take note. Nonetheless, we did it and it was all that mattered!

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Gladius cards can definitely turn battles around! Don't underestimate their ability to do so!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

Your melee combination of fire cards was powerful. Impressive work of Gorth in the arena.
I am sure that in these circumstances, the opponent can stop your path to victory
Thank you for sharing this effective strategies
