For every battle in Splinterlands, mana is one to consider. Mana are the basis of players on card picking and from there, they need to formulate their strategy. Most of the times, mana becomes the problem of most players because they do not know how to execute their strategies. It can be the reason why players always fail to win the game because their strategies were ruined by the mana cap.

In Splinterlands, there are monsters that do not need mana in order to be summoned in the battle. They need ZERO mana. Interesting, right?! A monster that can be summoned on any mana cap without sacrificing your strategy. Actually, each elements has one. These are the: SCORCH FIEND, TORCH FIEND, FUNGUS FIEND, SOUL FIEND, and CORPSE FIEND.

So what are we waiting for? Let us go and get to know these 5 Legendary Monster.

SILENCE

At Level 1, this five monsters do not have any ability. They just need to rely on their stats. But as they level up, they gain abilities that ae valuable in the game. For Scorch Fiend, it gains Demoralize ability. Monsters with this kind of ability can reduce the melee attacks of their opponent's monsters. In water unit, Torrent Fiend gains new ability called Headwinds. Monsters with this kind of ability can reduce the range attacks of their opponent's monsters. In earth unit, Fungus Fiend gains new ability called Slow. Monster with this kind of ability can reduce the speed of their opponent's monsters. In Light Unit, Soul Fiend gains new ability called Swiftness. Monster with this kind of ability can increase the speed of friendly monsters. In Death Unit, Corpse Fiend gains new ability called Silence. Monster with this kind of ability can reduce the magic attacks of their opponent's monsters.

Now that we know their abilities when they level up, it is now time to study these monsters. In order to fully understand this monster, we must know their common weaknesses. Here are the following:

  • THEY ALL HAVE LOW LIFE. They can be killed in just one attack.
  • THEY ALL HAVE LOW MELEE ATTACKS. They cannot make damage when the monster they are attacking has Shield ability.
  • THEY ALL HAVE LOW SPEED. Most of them has 1 or 2 speed which only shows that they cannot really evade many attacks.

Now that we know their weaknesses, its time to find solution in order for them to survive the battle and help longer the other monsters without the use of other cards. Here are the following:

  • Never position these monsters on tank position. We already mentioned that it has low life so it has no match against the attacks. Position these monsters on third to last position.
  • Pick these monsters on low mana fight. In a low mana fight, there are high chance for your enemy to only pick monsters with low attacks. With that, Fiends can survive that. Also, it can help to you to have additional damager in the field.

So those are the strategies that we can pull out if ever we do not have the cards that can amplify the ability, stats, and characteristics of these monsters.

TEAMING UP WITH THE CARDS

In Splinterlands, in order to win on every battle, cards must support each other. Their abilities must fit to each other in order for the team to work. Most of the times, the abilities of other monsters or summoners strengthen the other monster. In the case of these Elemental Fiends, there are specific summoners and monsters that can help them survive longer the field.

SUMMONERS

PEAKRIDER. This summoner is one of the great summoners you may use to elevate the stat of Soul Fiend. It can increase the shield of it by three. That can help Soul Fiend to survive many rounds.
GRANDMASTER RATHE. This Light Summoner would be also a great companion of Soul Fiend. This summoner can give one shield, Void Armor ability, and Amplify. Monsters with Void Armor ability hits the armor first before damaging the monster's life. That means that if Soul Fiend is battling with monster with magic attack, then Soul Fiend can surely still make it until the next. For Amplify, monsters with this kind of ability increases the damages that Magic Reflect, Return Fire, and Thorns ability by 1 to all monsters.
LORNA SHINE. This summoner gives all friendly monsters Divine Shield ability. Monsters with this kind of ability ignores the first damage it gets. That is good news for Soul Fiend because it can make it survive at least until the next attack.
TARSA. This summoner is one of the Starter Cards and Scorch Fiend can benefit a lot from it. This summoner can increase the melee and life of friendly monsters by one. It can make somehow elevate the power of Scorch Fiend and make its existence more valuable in the game.

As you notice, there are only Light And Fire Summoners mentioned above that can help the Elemental Fiends elevate their overall power. These four the cards that only mentioned because they can affect the overall power of Soul Fiend and Scorch Fiend greatly. On other unit, there are also other summoners that can elevate the overall power of other Fiends, but it does not have strong effect. Even though it does not have strong effects compared to the four mentioned above, still, you may use it o somehow help Elemental Finds survive many rounds.

The monsters above are the suggested monsters to use alongside with the Elemental Fiends.

  • Monsters with Taunt ability, like MAGNOR, THE KRAKEN, MYCELIC SLIPSPAWN, SHIELD BEARER, AND DARK HAON the best to use with these Fiends. Taunt ability attracts all the attacks and damages. This will help Fiends to survive many rounds.
  • Monsters with Strengthen ability, like LORD OF FIRE and SCALE DOCTOR can increase the life of friendly monsters. This will make an additional life for Elemental Fiends.
  • Monsters with Resurrect ability, like RIVER HELLONDALE and HIGH PRIEST DARIUS, can resurrect one monster after it dies in the battle. This kind of ability gives the Elemental Fiends an opportunity to fight again and help to win the game,
  • Monsters with Protect ability, like TRUTHSPEAKER, can give additional armor on friendly monsters. That will help Elemental Fiends resist attacks made by the opponent.

Currently I am starting to think about the penalty I take using the Fiends in battles for ranked rewards payouts. You still have to win the battle or you lose all the payout.
