Splinterlands Down Big $ - A Great Opportunity
Over the last 2 months, I have gotten very into Splinterlands. I have had a spellbook since March and have been participating on and off throughout that time. Additionally I have bought and sold a lot of my deck numerous times over that period and have been constantly rebuilding instead of stacking that entire time (a huge mistake, but we're still early... probably).
I have always been keeping a close eye on the market and prices and am not quite sure how to feel about what I've been seeing recently. I am seeing powerful cards down between 25-35% from where I bought them or from where their price was holding steady for a while.
Some cards that I like to use for reference are these ones:
These are some of the most useful cards in the game in my opinion and now they are down big from the prices I am used to seeing them. The Llama for example was trading around $800 for the longest time and is now available for $250 cheaper. Plado Emberstorm was trading for upwards of $900 for a while and is now down to $500. Though these prices are still insane for characters in a game, it is a bit disheartening to see the prices dropping down as other cards that were introduced are being strategized to replace some of the big hitters.
My biggest investment in Splinterlands was purchasing a Kron the Undying for almost $450... Now take a look:
I could have paid 33% less if I had just waited. Of course I didn't know that at the time because it could have just as easily gone 33% the other direction, and I still think that it will eventually.
So I have two options here. I can be mad that I overpaid for a lot of the cards I have... Or I can see this as an opportunity to buy more at cheaper prices.
If we see a miracle Christmas airdrop somewhere in the DeFi world like we did last year with SushiSwap, I will be absolutely pumping funds into Splinterlands. Cards at the top of my list are the summoners I pictured here in addition to Yodin and Cryptmancer; who knows, maybe we'll see some money coming in and I can grab these gems.
If you are looking to get invested in Splinterlands right now, whether hundreds of dollars or just a few, it is a great time to start making moves in the market. Cards are cheaper than they've been in months and haven't lost their intrinsic value of helping you get rich battling in the Splinterlands.
Good luck to all!

The ups and downs of the market are to be expected. At least prices are much higher than they were a year ago because Kron was less than $100.

A wider view is definitely helpful here. Hopefully we see the rebound we expect
less than $10
I think it might of been there not too long after I started. I remember Yodin around $50 around that time.

I think at the lowest, KRON was selling for $3-7. I can't quite remember where it bottomed out. Yodin was as low as $8-12.
I can't bring myself to play since chaos changed everything. I lose every battle lol. I dread having to learning everything again. I havent bought any packs yet either lol

I also find this game hard to understand, way to hard for me to play.
Well I would advise you to play. I bought packs on day 1 and could never figure out how to play. The dashboard was overwhelming and it was so early that there were few tutorials.
I always felt bad that I couldn't figure out how to play and knowing me, I would have addictively played my daily quests had I known what they were and how to battle. That cost me big time. Had I played my daily quests since day 1 of the game I would be rich from the rewards. It kills me because I wanted to keep up with it at launch but couldn't figure it out.
I'm hoping that people write tutorials for newbies in bronze that will get them through some battles with solid lineups. That is what brought me back to the game right around the time of the SPS air drops. That will bring me back again!!!! Where my content creators at?????
So do you have to purchase the spell book before you can purchase the packets?
No. You can purchase packs and gain the assets if you want to. But without the spellbook you cannot earn from battling.
Im no expert so maybe someone will chime in on a better way to get started but I would wait until the general sale so you can buy packs for $4.
You may want to log in and do some practice battles so you begin to understand what the battles are like.
If you buy the spellbook you can use free cards provided by splinterlands to play and earn with but you won't own them.
If you are strictly wanting to invest in cards and not play seek out some ideas on the best cards to own by reading articles in the splinterlands tag on hive.
I would be of better service to you had chaos legion not dropped. I was getting bettter at the old game lol. I can't make heads or tails of the new game but I can tell you that the game is moving forward and not going anywhere. It's a good game to learn and invest in.
