Stories Of Deception For A Good Cause?

A white lie; is what we mostly call it so we can feel good about a lie we just told someone. According to the English dictionary, a white lie is a harmless or trivial lie which is mostly told to people to avoid hurting their feelings. But then these days we tend to categorise everything under white-lies.

I think we have all been in a certain situation where we needed to tell a lie. Needed to tell a lie so that we could protect something or someone. This reminds me of my senior high school days.

Back at the senior high school, there was this tradition that was passed on to generations. Each time the juniors were moving from form one to form two there was a tradition called welcome to form 2. This was a tradition which was practised by the seniors who just moved into Form 3.

This wasn’t a pleasant tradition as it was all about bullying the juniors. The seniors went about campus will belts beating any current from 2 students they laid their sight on as a sign to mark that they made it into form 2.

So this time round we were the seniors and as tradition demanded we needed to welcome them into Form 2. With my gang, we started to roam the corners of the campus searching and searching. We laid sights on some of them and it was a good laugh for us as we took turns to lash them.

So a friend of mine and I decided that we were going to depart from the group and then go on our own, we went around the mosque and saw one of the juniors sitting there. We asked him what he was doing there and he said he was just sitting there. We wanted to belt him which he sensed so he started acting up.

As a precaution, I decided to tell my friend to leave him alone so we could go and leave him with his attitude. My friend wasn’t the forgiving type so he had to do something to him. He hit him with the belt and to our surprise the junior retaliated. My friend wasn’t having it so he opted to beat him up. In the process, we realised he had a dislocated arm, to our confusion we didn’t know if he was sitting there with it or if it was caused by my friend.

So fast forward we were summoned to the disciplinary committee about this issue. Since I was not the one who caused the damage I was asked to give an account of the incident. Mehn, all I remember is that I had to tell a really good lie to save a friend from intense punishment. This is because the parents of the boy this happened to had already involved the police and they were on standby. So this was a necessary lie to save a colleague.

Yes, we mostly don’t encourage people to lie but then when it gets critical we sometimes need to employ all these tactics to help us.
