My Approach to the Reverse Speed Ruleset in Modern Diamond

Reverse Speed ruleset battle at a Diamond level in Modern League!

We have three rulesets in effect: Broken Arrows, Even Stevens and Reverse Speed:

RULESET: Reverse Speed

Description:

Units with lower speeds will attack before units with higher speeds. Attack Accuracy based on speed will also be reversed.

Units with Bloodlust will increase speed after killing a unit.
Avoid using Slow as this will help your opponent.

The Strategy

In the reverse ruleset I like picking slow monsters and monsters with true strike ability.
In this case I don't have to worry about ranged attackers due to the Broken Arrows ruleset so I am betting that they will have a magic heavy team.

Based on that bet I chose a great Rebellion promo monster Grimbardun Smith. This monster is very strong against both magic and melee attackers. Unfortunately Grimbardun Smith doesn't have any attack so I give him magic attack using a Weapons Training monster Aves Sturges. I also used Pelacor Conjurer after Aves Sturgis so that I get another small mana monster with great stats but no attack a magic attack. And finally in the back I threw in a true strike opportunity melee monster Celestial Harpy and last but not least Doctor Blight.

The whole team is protected by Grandmaster Rathe summoner which is great against magic attacks, but also gives everyone shield so he is good against melee attackers as well.

The Summoner

Grandmaster Rathe is a legendary summoner from the Chaos Legion set. This summoner is great against magic attacking monsters that I would expect in this ruleset as he gives everyone armor and void shield. Shield also works against melee attackers that may be used in this battle.

1st Slot - Meat Shield Monster

Soul Fiend is not great for the reverse speed ruleset as it boosts the speed of my team, but I had to fill one more slot and I was out of mana, so I put it up in front so that it will quickly die absorbing a couple attacks.

2nd Slot - Main Tank Monster

Grimbarun Smith is one of those expensive promo cards so I am renting him. This card is perfect for the reverse speed ruleset. It has one speed, ten health points three shield and Immunity, Void, Shield and Repair abilities. It lacks attack so I used Aves Sturgis behind Grimbardun Smith to give him three magic attack.

3rd Slot - Weapons Training Monster

Aves Sturgis is a legendary soulbound monster that has weapons training and divine shield and rust abilities. While it is somewhat of a glass cannon it is a great support monster.

4th Slot - Secondary Shield Monster

In case they get through our main tank I put Pelacor Conjurer as our secondary tank. This monster costs only two mana, but has great stats and abilities. I place it behind weapons training monster to give it three magic attack.

5th Slot - Opportunity Monster

Celestial Harpy is a two mana opportunity monster. With five health, four speed, two melee damage and true strike it is a great monster for this ruleset.

6th Slot - Support Monster

Doctor Blight is a versatile Chaos Promo monster that fits in almost any ruleset, but in reverse speed ruleset it really shines as his speed is one. Another pricy monster that I don't own, but choose to rent.

THE BATTLE

Our opponent seems to disregard both rulesets, particularly the reverse speed ruleset by choosing a speed boosting summoner. Let's see how that will work out for them...

In the first round we took out their self healing tank and lost our meat shield. I would say that was a pretty good trade :)

In the second round we took out two of their monsters and lost one monster on our side. That is a pretty good trade!

After round three the outcome of the battle is pretty clear, I guess they will not see the fifth round...

And in round four we win 12+ SPS tokens and 921Glint!
