Three years playing Splinterlands and getting more involved in HIVE community

August is my three year Anniversary with Splinterlands!

When I first discovered Splinterlands, I didn’t fully grasp the impact it would have on my perception of gaming and blockchain technology. Splinterlands is now over five years old and I have been playing it for three years myself. This game, built on the HIVE blockchain, has not only revolutionized the gaming industry but has also opened my eyes to the potential of decentralized finance (DeFi) and true digital ownership.

Splinterlands launched in 2018, during a time when the concept of blockchain gaming was still relatively new. Splinterlands saw the potential for a gaming ecosystem where players could truly own their assets and participate in a decentralized economy. The decision to build on the HIVE blockchain was pivotal. Unlike many other blockchains, HIVE offers fast and feeless transactions, making it the perfect foundation for a game where every move could involve a blockchain transaction. This allowed players to focus on the gameplay itself, without the burden of transaction fees, creating a seamless and engaging experience.

The Underappreciated Potential of HIVE

Despite all the success and innovation, one area where I believe many in the Splinterlands community are missing out is their exposure to HIVE tokens. A lot of players, even those who own significant amounts of SPS (Splinterlands’ governance token), are underexposed to HIVE. For instance, very few players who own at least 200,000 SPS tokens also hold 10,000 HIVE. If you want to learn more about HIVE holdings of Splinterlands players you can see an excellent post by azircon. This is surprising, especially considering the vital role HIVE plays as the underlying blockchain that powers Splinterlands.

Now that the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF) proposal has gained enough votes and is funding Splinterlands every day, I think it’s an excellent time for the community to show more support for the blockchain that supports our beloved game. By accumulating and staking more HIVE, we can strengthen the network, increase the power of our votes, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the entire ecosystem.

Staking HIVE isn’t just about supporting the network—it’s also a smart financial move. Staking HIVE currently offers a 15% yield, providing a steady return on investment. For those of us who are deeply invested in the future of Splinterlands, increasing our HIVE holdings is a way to diversify our portfolios while also giving back to the blockchain that has made this incredible gaming experience possible.

I myself am guilty of being under-exposed to HIVE. While I have been regularly posting on HIVE blog for over a year I have been taking half of my rewards and using them to buy SPS tokens. Starting with this post I am now fully converting my HIVE rewards into HIVE Power (Staked HIVE tokens) and will be participating in HIVE Power Up Day and HIVE Power Up Month.

I already have almost 2,000 HIVE tokens and my goal is to increase my HIVE power to 10,000 HIVE by the end of this year.

A Call to Action for the Splinterlands Community

I believe it’s time for the Splinterlands community to come together and show more support for the HIVE blockchain. Accumulating and staking HIVE is not just a way to secure our own financial future, but also a way to strengthen the network that has made Splinterlands possible. By increasing our HIVE holdings, we can amplify our influence in the community, contribute to the long-term sustainability of the game, and enjoy the benefits of a 15% yield on our staked tokens.

There are three simple steps every Splinterlands player can take to support the game and HIVE:

  1. Create great posts about Splinterlands on HIVE and make sure you set your post rewards to 100% power up your HIVE power.

  2. Regularly participate in HIVE Power Up Day (you simply increase your staked HIVE by at least 10 HIVE on the first of every month) and in HIVE Power Up Month.

  3. You can manually vote for the posts you like or sign up for a curation trail at https://hive.vote that would automatically vote on your behalf. I vote manually and also follow THGaming curation trail. Voting is basically using your HIVE power and earning you about 15% on your investment and you participate in a potential HIVE appreciation. If you want a safer 15% return you can also invest in HIVE Savings using HBD (Hive Backed Dollars):

Splinterlands is more than just a game—it’s a movement. It’s a testament to what’s possible when you combine cutting-edge technology with a player-first mentality. As I continue to build my collection, and explore the ever-expanding world of Splinterlands, I’m reminded of why I fell in love with this game in the first place. Here’s to the next five years of innovation, community, and, most importantly, fun—and to a renewed commitment to the HIVE blockchain that makes it all possible.
