Get Your Shields Up

Introduction

I had a great weekend. I played some bowling and watched kungfu panda 4. I will be sharing my battle mage secrets as usual. Last week for battle mage secrets, I shared about my strategy and tips for even stevens ruleset. The theme for this week is Explosive Weaponry. In this ruleset, all units get blast. The blast damage is half the initial damage rounded up if I'm not wrong.

My Strategy & Tips for Explosive Weaponry

The number 1 tip for this ruleset is to have a unit with reflection shield. Bring out the tide bider, the kinjo, the runi. These are your units that you want to use either in the second position or the second last position provided there's a taunt unit in the last position. This will help maximize the percentage of winning the battle in an RNG dependent kind of game like Splinterlands.

The one popular strategy for this ruleset is the Jacek strategy. The Jacek Strategy involves using Countess Sinash and Supply Runner to maximize the speed so the team can do scattershot blast damage. The scattershot is amazing with blast as the additional splash damage can hit another two units instead of only one unit if the unit would normally be attacking the first position unit. Of course this only works if fire element is available.

For water, I like to play Kelya. I will use a tank first position with tide bider second position along with a runi in the fifth position paired with a wave brood. This ensures that there is blast protect from both sides. This is super good if Jacek is not available.

The same thing can be applied with Earth. For Earth, I will use the infamous Immortalis. I will add Mycelic Infantry infront with kinjo second and runi fifth with mycelic slipspawn in the last since it has taunt. Sometimes I won't put kinjo in the second spot since there's void and usually a queen mycelia to block some of the blast damage if opponent attacks the first position.

I don't find the other elements as good but if you're stuck with death there is revealer and there's one for life with reach and one dragon unit range with blast shield as well. These I think aren't as popular as the ones mentioned but do use them if there's no other choice.

The Battle

The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my scholar account, Bltzr-wizard-727. I actually played this battle three hours ago so it's pretty fresh. I played all day to find a battle with this ruleset so I can showcase it for this post. The ruleset for this battle was What Doesn't Kill You, Blood and Sunder and Explosive Weaponry. The mana cap was 42 and the water, earth and death elements were banned.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner , Immortalis - I chose Immortalis for one of the strategies I mentioned earlier.

First Position, Mycelic Infantry - Mycelic Infantry is almost always the first position tank for any immortalis lineup.

Second Position, Venator Kinjo - I used Venator Kinjo to protect from blast.

Third Position, Queen Mycelia - This unit was mainly to support my team. It gave my whole team armor and there was triage for my taunt unit in the back.

Fourth Position, Goblin Psychic - Goblin Psychic was another support unit. It gave silence and it healed my frontline tank.

Fifth Position, Runi - This unit was my melee DPS but it also gave me a shield for blast which paired well with my last unit taunt

Sixth Position, Mycelic Slipspawn - This unit was the main tank for the team. It had taunt to basically force opponent to take the damage. The purpose was to soak as much damage as possible with the triage healing.

Analysis of The Battle

You may have noticed I opted out of the Jacek lineup. Although the Jacek lineup is used a lot, I thought the enrage wouldn't be too good because of forcefield units. I went for a less spray and pray option with Immortalis. My opponent went for Jacek and you can see that they used Supply Runner and Countess Sinash which are the core in a Jacek lineup. I was confused why he played the taunt unit in the 2nd position as the splash damage would still hit his frontline unit. I think that was the reason I won. He might've had a better chance with his first , second and third units rearranged.

Hopefully after watching this battle, you can see the power of using reflection shield in an explosive weaponry ruleset.

Thank you bro. I love having the cards to block the blast. It's good for blast ruleset.
