Splinterlands Strategies: Brawls, the Last Bastion of Humanity?

I used to not care; try as I would I seem to have lost my touch on how to win at Splinterlands. With the advent of the second generation of BOTs (ArchMage, XBOT), I felt no desire to play anymore.
Why fight the robotic army when you can rent a robot yourself and be on an even keel?
Battling the second generation manually is taxing, stressful, and demoralising. These algorithms are good and can hold their own against us humans, so why bother?
I don't bother and have a sole account using an XBOT token that sits at the top of the Gold league, occasionally creaming off 4000 DEC as a prize at the end of the season, as well as 10-11 chests a day and 75 or so every 2 weeks.
This is not my 'big' account and is customised toward the gold league. Level 6 summoners, Level 8 commons, etc.., on most splinters.
My 'big' accounts are still renting their assets, it's still more profitable that way, especially concerning the Llamas, Yodins, and Kitties of this world.
...'XBOT is a decent player, better than me.., but that's because I am quite a shit player now and all my opponents are also XBOT and ArchMage players'...
So why the profanity?
Brawls; the last bastion of Splinterlands humanity. There are no BOTs (yet) that support brawls and I would prefer it to stay that way.
If the BOT's vanished overnight, I would be fine with that. I still wouldn't play all my cards, but would then have a chance of winning.
I purposely joined a guild that has no demands with my third-rate account. They don’t require DEC every season, and none of the guild members have paid any DEC... ever.
...'No DEC contributions in a guild, from anyone (beside the leader) is a rare sight'...
I know what you are thinking…, 'tight-arse'.
Once I was in a 'proper' guild, for over a year. Then one day they kicked me without any contact. This was after contributing 40,000 DEC or so over some time.
I was salty, and this was before the days of Brawls, Gladiator cards, and SPS rewards. There were no rewards, and I felt I needed to play my part.

So now, I use the PeakMonsters Feeder guilds, hosted and funded graciously by @jarvie. It was a quiet life until recently when my feeder guild decided it wasn't going to be one anymore.
Oh shit, now I will have to play again, but you know what…, because I am playing humans it's quite the challenge.
Well... I hope I am playing humans and there isn't some secret Brawls BOT about that I don't know about.
If there is, please spill the beans.
Brawls are forcing me to play again, and besides the odd swearing outburst, I am sitting up and learning how to play… again.

I can't see myself being booted from a PeakMonsters Feeder guild due to bad performances but it's kind of embarrassing when you play 8 matches, win 1 and win another due to your opponent fleeing.
This is how lousy I have become at playing in today's Meta. It needs to change and I refuse to recruit my big boys in order to 'cheat' – Llama / Yodin / Kitty.
Take note of the rulesets, and learn what splinter performs better when it’s a limited ManaCap. I can’t use Life but can use all the others.
Maybe there is some human life left in Splinterlands after all?

What I have noticed is that amount of other guild players who rent most of their cards, rather than own them. I feel I am an oddity being someone who NEVER rents anything, and owns EVERY asset I use.
Now I really need to upgrade my L7 Deeplurker to L8. Hitting for 5 instead of 4 makes a difference.
- Earn currency while you play and become a global Rock Star with Rising Star
- Own assets, and earn currency while playing one of the oldest, most established Crypto Games, Splinterlands

Brawls are my favorite part of the game right now. I am not great, but I had my own. The real benefit of requiring DEC is that your guild can upgrade the buildings easier. I am looking forward to getting some potions for gold gladius cards one day.
I find myself running out of time when picking a team. That never used to happen.
Gladiator cards, I don't get excited about. The soul-bound thing sucks IMO. The new reward cards idea is controversial, though I hear you can get more than one per chest. Otherwise, it will be like the Gladiator cards.., highest level you ever get is 2 or 3. Not worth the bother.

As @bozz says, Brawls is the most fun part of Splinterlands now. Everything else is sadly automated. Perhaps they should remove the API so all the BOTS stop working. Now that would be radical!
all BOTS stop working, oh I might play it again if that happened! I never got to grips with it because of the BOTS, Splinterlands has long since sailed for me!

There are free BOTS, what I consider Gen 1. They play adequately, but the Gen 2 ones are mean bastards.
I'd just rent my cards. I suck at the strategy. It would be pointless to even try without bots.
I tried Sprinterland literally played 2 Games and lost both.... If you're losing then seems like I Got no chance there.
More like a Bot and will just keep trying to get better at it.

Yes, it was.. so simple I could play 4 matches in 4 browsers simultaneously, switch between them and have a decent win rate. Those days didn't last.
Yeah, I never did that but I played it on my phone in my spare minutes! The last time I played I just kept getting my arse kicked!
I have no real interest in playing against bots. If you take humans out of the loop then why even have it as a game? It's a waste of all the creativity. I'll just keep renting out my cards for now as I'd rather do other things.
You do well renting. I could rent the @dismayedworld account out, and get a better return, but I want to keep my hand in the Meta, the playing, the evolvement of the game, whether BOTS or humans are playing.
If I had my way, I would remove the API calls for the playing system, forcing the BOTS to retire. That would shake things up. I use them, solely to level the playing field for myself.
I'm just not going to do that. I'm sure they could make it harder to use bots, but they don't seem to care enough to do that. I did my share of playing and I've moved on.
If they remove the battle API, the servers will be slammed with scripts running headless browsers using Selenium and it will be more resource-intensive, it will lead to IPs getting banned eventually. It's a cat-and-mouse game.
Pawning off that risk and a different business model onto forked versions of Splinterlands (spinoffs) run by different companies will result in approaches that prevent the status quo without Steem Monsters imposing their will. There are other benefits to forks as well, which go well beyond the botting issue. Also, if bots for Splinterlands are so in-demand, what does that say about the game play itself?
I'm not sure Selenium would work, but that did cross my mind.
I do enjoy Brawls, its manual.., but its just a few matches.., not lots one after the others. I see your point though.

Also, there's no chance advertisers would want to be associated with Splinterlands with the proliferation of bots. The benefits of the attention economy are removed entirely with bots. Bots have no sense of brand recognition. We would all win if there was another source of revenue like this.
Decentralization will save Splinterlands and give you more of it than you ever thought possible. We just have to put in the work to make it happen. Forks will come.

Not to make it overly dramatic but there are bots in brawl too. The ones ran by bubke. Basically all well known accounts by immortal gods guilds.
I have resisted, among others,so that Archmage and Xbot don’t run Brawls. It’s been a gentleman’s understanding so far that is making the last line of defense between us and the devil. That’s all :)
Sometimes they malfunction that’s the giveaway.

Yes, they just happened in my guild. We managed third.., the best ever result and one player didn't bother submitting.
I am still renting all on main account, and the second was gold level with golg cards, but I did send all to main and rented after the super bots attack. more relaxed, still renting some fire/water teams for 2 days when i do the brawls and have some matches after that. the spt bug is not letting me go.
I miss the good old days when human opponents were an actual thing. God save us all when the bots take over brawls as well. Stay they course.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the tower defense game (most likely scheduled to release in 2028) is a bot-free game.
with lands and towerdefence there will be even more bots here, because any profit opportunity will bring more bots....

Back three years ago when I played it I was able to reach gold tier one I think. Even almpst to diamond, and I had a fair deck.
Playing it last year when I returned I bought a shitlaod of cards, I'd say I had a better deck than to start with.. Laughs I wasnt even able to get bronze tier 3 🤣🤣 I just can't get into the ranking 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, it was like that. I used to play 3 accounts in Champion, and those old champion points were great for the late SPS airdrop.., they gave you more.

Brawls have been fun, just wish they would get them working on mobile. But looking forward to using those special cards you get by brawling to work on my lands.
