Nimbledook scout | Splinterlands Art Contest artwork for this week!
Hey guys, I decided to do something different for this contest this time. I usually focus of the character itself while painting but it's been a while since I painted one while focusing on the background too and painting Nimbledook scout was the perfect opportunity to do this since she looks like someone who climbed mountains. Meaning, putting this character in a sunset background would be very fun to draw atleast thats what I thought haha. While doing that the light source will be from the back which is tricky when you try to shade. I relied on bounce lighting to add more details on her since here body will be drained because of the environment light's placing. This is how it turned out.

I started painting the background first for this one because it will help with the lighting on the character later on. The reference image showed Moon lighting. I decided to switch it up and use the lighting during the sunset so the characters pallette is gonna get a bit dark. I painted a sunny sky, and a minimalist scenery of mountains and trees behind her to show the beauty, distance and depth of the surrounding by applying gradient blur on it. The vegetation near her was painted in dark red because of the the lighting conditions.
Now what's left was the character itself. I painted the first layer and fused all the layers to shade them in one go using multiply blending mode except for the face. Next I added patterns of folds and creaves on her clothes and then bouncy light as well in a low opacity mode. Then I blended them wherever it was needed but if you look at it it's pretty useless because no one is gonna see all that in this lighting condition. What's more visible will be the rim lights which are formed around the body which is why I decided to draw her in this lighting. I applied it all throughout her body and now it feels like the character is blended with background itself. Added some final touches here and there and it was done!

Thank you so much for your time 😊
What a departure from your norm. You really made it look like an adventurous scene. Nicely done! 😊
Thanks :) When are we going to see your landscape paintings again Ema? No time to paint these days?
😩 my schedule has been so tight lately. I've been squeezing in painting when I can, but not as much as I'd like! Thank you for asking, Solumviz 😊.
I love the background! Hmm, I should take the challenge too to focus more on the background than the char itself. I like the sunset effect! ☀️
