Upcoming Release Notes

Soulkeep Release

The Double Coconut developer tower defense game, Soulkeep, will be released. Pack opening and card combining will take place through our interface, and a link to acces the game on their site has been added to the navigation bar.

General Updates

Will add sound effects to the Reward Shop draw opening animation!

Will add a new option into the settings which will allow users to get most numbers displayed using their local browser styling, i.e. periods instead of commas. Note: There may still be areas of the game that need clean-up to properly format numbers using this option.

Will add some imagery to the Combine All warning to help make it clearer what is going to happen if you confirm the operation.

Will update the text on the Non-Card market for Titles and Totems to include additional information about land bonuses from these items.

Items Hotfixed into the Game Prior to the Release

Fixed the daily metrics for spellbook purchases.

Improved the performance of token unstaking.

Focus Map

Big Picture

  • Things have been difficult.
  • However, this time we are ready for the next bull run.
  • The team, tech, and game economy are in place.
  • Planning to do marketing and promotion.
  • Developing a rich gaming experience.

New Player Onboarding

  • Plan is to start focusing resources to get new players in and making sure they have a good experience so they stay.
  • This means there will be less resources available to do other things on the focus map.
  • We have about 100 sign ups to the game every day.
  • Most of these accounts are real people and not bots.
  • This is without marketing.
  • However, these sign ups are not converting to players.
  • This is a fixable problem that we are going to address.
  • So this will be the highest priority project .
  • The plan is that you will be able to participate in many aspects of the game without needing to purchase a spellbook.
  • You will be able to earn some rewards that aren't tradable.
  • So it will be more like a traditional free to play experience.
  • So we will be removing the paywall that currently exists.
  • We will track the stats.
  • Once we are able to convert these sign ups to players then we will get a Web 3 marketer.

Soulbound Reward Cards

  • This summer we plan to release a new set of Soulbound Reward Cards.
  • About 42 cards will be released all at once.
  • Will remain Soulbound for about a year.
  • The old set will become unlockable at the same time as the new release.

Skins and Cosmetics

  • Skins and cosmetics will be added to the game.
  • Debating on whether to make them Soulbound or not.
  • Web 3 doesn't mean that everything has to be tradable.

Validators - SPS Chain

  • 2 developers currently working on validators.
  • Plan to make a DAO proposal to help fund.

Fairplay Policy

  • Battle helpers and bots no longer allowed in certain parts of the game.
  • Still being abused.
  • We have built tools to accurately detect bot usage.
  • Warning that we will start taking action.

Soulkeep

  • Game scheduled to launch next week.
  • No longer a Splinterlands game.
  • Double Coconut owns it.
  • Splinterlands has a revenue share deal for them to use our platform to operate the game.
  • All feedback and issues need to go to Double Coconut.

Land

  • Most of the 1.6 items have been finished.
  • Now working on Land 2.0.
  • Looking to add the addition of Natural resources: Wood, Stone, and Iron.
  • Goal is to add utility for research.
  • Tundras and Canyons poll - we plan to change the percentages.

Ranked Play

  • Evaluating Wild - possible changes regarding glint so that it is similar to glint earnings in Modern.
  • Evaluating leaderboard changes.

Runway of the Company

  • Lots of variables.
  • Assuming zero revenue - we have 6 to 7 months of runway.
  • Solutions for a 12 month runway:
    • DAO helping with validator expenses
    • Plan to make a proposal to the Hive DAO
    • Revenue from promo card sales
    • End of the year Rebellion sell out
    • Possibility of raising capital

This summer we plan to release a new set of Soulbound Reward Cards.

Please don't do it. The game is already too complicated for the new players.
Releasing a new set every year not only consumes the team's budget but also makes the game experience worse. Why do you still want to do it every year?

Good luck to you guys with generating enough income to sustain the game beyond a year. Hopefully you can do that without having to appeal to the DAO and such. Opening the game up to newcomers with some easier access to start decks and cards definitely seems like the right move, much like traditional card games would.

By unlocking the SB cards, does it mean you can now buy/sell it? I think the answer to this is a yes but I just want to be sure.

If yes, I think it's also good to have a card that is permanently soulbound and will not be unlocked/sellable ever until the end of time. Why? Think of this as an achievement that you can use in game. Instead of having the titles that don't really impact the game, a card that you can ONLY get by grinding the game makes grinding worthwhile and an achievement.

Big red flag there with the probable need to raise capital....

Also, what is with governance proposals aimed to change the white paper...
A vote was passed to reduce the maximum SPS from 3 billion to 2 billion. In hopes of making it scarcer. But, if it's that easy to change the rules then is it really any more scarce? A new vote could just say let's print 10 billion SPS a day.

The white paper changing over time will create further instability.
