Waka Spiritblade Next Steps

(Edited)

Following a successful phase 1 sellout of the Waka Spiritblade sale, phase 2 saw Splinterlands and Loak launch the second half of the NFTs on AtomicHub. The AtomicHub portion was not as well received as hoped for and there were definitely learning lessons to be had for the team.

To redact the lesser community interest in operating on WAX, Splinterlands will be recalling all remaining Waka Spiritblade NFTs (both regular and gold foil) from the “wakasaleacct” AtomicHub account and bringing them back into the Splinterlands game.

The plan is to then sell the remainder of the Waka Spiritblade NFTs in the Splinterlands in-game market, as well as on third party markets at the same $1500 USD regular foil / $7000 USD gold foil price point in DEC/Tokens.

The sale will run from 12pm EDT on April 5th to 12pm EDT on April 12th, 2022. Following the April 12th date, ALL REMAINING CARDS WILL BE BURNED.

If there are any questions about this process or the Splinterlands sale, please reach out to Chatter at Chatter#6536 on Discord.

I would be OK if they Burned all the Remaining Cards Right Now.............. Scarcity is a Good Thing

I think this is a smart decision. I do think there are some lessons to be learned from this and a smart team will dig into the core issues involved. It sounds like the team has done that reflection and the game will be better in the future as a result.

Its never wrong to try something new, that's what makes great companies (and games) GREAT!

Keep it up!

Curious, why not just put them on the market for the same SPS and VOUCHERS that you originally sold them for?

This is a poor move it should be sold the same as original 500 vouchers and 5000SPS and burn the rest
this would be much fairer for the fist 500 card buyers the price of wax and converting it made it much more tha S1500 dollars

Kinda screwed over the first 500 Waka buyers that needed to get 500 vouchers to buy them....bad move.

Way to go in crashing the secondary market pricing of Waka.

Lesson learnt, there is no need to rush to get any future promo @splinterlands comes out with as the devs will eventually sell the same card way cheaper.

Hey @bladesong, I understand the frustration. Two things I'd point out though, first the game did clearly state how many were going to be printed ahead of time. So while one blockchain's demand was white hot, the other was stone cold. I think a big chunk of that is our platform has the demand (naturally), and that demand was satiated after the 1st sale. While the 2nd half was hoped to bring in new players, that of course didn't materialize. I don't think anyone was screwed over, but I do think it was a lesson that won't be repeated in the future.

The 2nd point is this game has in the past done a great job of providing great promos. I remember when you could buy all the ALPHA Kickstarter packs you wanted and get special bonus cards to go with it. Now that deal looks like a steal, but at the time people were complaining that it sapped all the demand. Same thing happened with the Untamed presale, at one time the Chain Golem was being treated as a throw away card because it was "over-produced" (or that's what the people burning them were saying). The point is that while this promo might turn out to be not very good, this would be the first time that would be the case if so. In other words, maybe your lesson learnt is right, but it would be unique relative to history.

Some people bought regular foil Wakas on the secondary market at way more than $1500. Some gold ones at way more than $7000. I think promo card sales should never ever be split up with a time interval in between as the secondary market will establish a price in that interval.

I agree with this and hopefully its one of the lessons learned by the team.

Attracting new players with something that costs over a thousand dollars.... I can't see that how that would be an easy thing. Toss out a freeby or two here and there would get you more attention. Ask anyone in advertising/marketing. (no, you don't give away the whole dang show...but one or two?? sure!)

Would I say to do that with the Wakas? Nope. Burn all of them that haven't sold on the Splinterlands platform. You save their worth/value for what did sell, and you eat the loss until tax season and claim it on your expenses for the year.

Next promo is when you apply what you learned on that last round

It's too costly to even think about .
Burn all of them.

Good thing for the player is the Waka is not something undefeatable as initiate thought. In fact it's not as scary as Yodin.

With $1.5K, I prefer more on getting a lvl 2 YOdin than this Max lvl Waka.

Anyone have the same thoughts?
Maybe Yodin need to be balanced.
For new player who mainly has CL cards, 80-90% fail rate when see a YOdin if don't rent cards. This rate drops to 30-50% when see a Waka. Maybe Waka is more scary at Diamond or upper leagues?

So... Let me get this straight...

You failed to sell them, so now you're bringing them back here for the same amount of money the sale failed at? That's not how demand works, the community set the price already. Burn em!

Odd choice from you guys to make a couple bucks by undercutting the value of what players already purchased on the secondary market.. Usually you're all about protecting player value.

Why don't you release the NFTs at market prices. That's more fair to the folks who bought while these were expensive. You guys are making a move that can crash the price.

What about treating WAX sale as like a presale to buy cheap & then drop the remaining NFTs on the market at much higher prices? 🚀

It would cool if there were a few given out as prizes to the community in some kind of competition

If they all don't sell why not keep remaining WAKA cards for future promotions. Would be a great prize in a one off Splinterlands tournament and other promotional events. Seems as if you are burning a resource.
