Ending Conflicts with a Bang: Nidhoggr

It's been nearing a year since the Rebellion set was released. And alongside it's arrival back then was the introduction of a new card airdrop system called 'Conflicts.' And despite the lackluster sale of the Rebellion set, which I believe is mainly due to the bearish cryptomarket in general, the release of conflicts was one of the best innovations the team had came up with. Instead of just incentivizing players to bulk buy which led to asset dumping in the secondary market, players were instead encouraged to stake their assets in order to increase their chances of receiving airdrop cards. This also kept the market value of cards healthy.

Fast forward to September and we are now down to the last airdrop card for the Rebellion conflicts - Nidhoggr. Splinterlands is really closing this chapter of the lore with a bang by introducing a very powerful dragon summoner. There's a great narration of Nidhoggr's lore from Bronzedragon that I'd like to share here as well:

Let's take a look at Nidhoggr's artwork as it has some interesting details in it. The artist did an amazing job of creating a very menacing-looking dragon. And to put a comparison on how huge Nidhoggr is, they've added the body of a lifeless soldier dangling from its mouth. If you look below, you can also see a lesser dragon being crushed by its massive tail. There's also a second set of smaller wings on its back, probably because having a pair is not enough to keep it afloat.

Talk about huge, Nidhoggr sets the record for the current highest mana cost summoner. Its abilities are also on point with the lore of the character. Removing health and armor might be from the terror that is inflicted upon the enemy units by the sheer appearance of Nidhoggr. Now for the new ability, which is force reduction, this must imply that it is so voracious that it even eats one of his allies even before the battle begins.

For the tactical abilities, the first pair gives three units two points in speed as well as execute. This is very handy especially for speed focused lineups. But I believe what makes Nidhoggr broken is the other set of tactics, giving three units blast and deathblow. With the armor and health weakening from its static abilities, giving allies blast may be the catalyst to quickly decimating the enemy units. And the unfortunate one that survives in the end will meet an unforgiving death blow.

Back when untamed was still part of modern, Yodin Zaku which gave blast to all allies, dominated the meta. And despite being suppressed by a high mana cost, I am sure that Nidhoggr would dominate the future modern meta as well, especially when Chaos Legion exits the stage.
