The Episode Challenge: A Praetorian Bounty

The People's Guild: A Splinterlands Podcast

Welcome back to the People's Guild. We've started a new segment of the show in which we aim to engage the writers & content creators out there through a new per-episode challenge.

As we wind down the inaugural challenge with a bounty being placed on our beloved game's creator, @yabapmatt, let us review our entries.

The winner will be determined by a jury of your peers - through an X poll!

As mentioned in our The Episode Challenge Article, the winner will earn the rights to 50% of the rewards for the post of next week's Challenge, set to drop Tuesday.

Thank you to all who participated!

The Entries

@bravetofu: Challenge Accepted: The Yabapmatt Bounty

BT challenge.png

The article, written by BraveTofu, humorously narrates their quest to capture @yabapmatt, the "Prince of Praetoria" in Splinterlands. Bravetofu, as the protagonist, navigates the dangerous land of Praetoria, facing challenges like toxic fumes and earthquakes. With companions Lorkus, Grimbardun Smith, and Usut, they engage in a tough battle where a rat dies dramatically, empowering Usut to turn the tide. Despite their victory over Yaba, BT feels conflicted about defeating the "big boss," especially with the strange presence of an Eternal Tofu.

@javiss: The First Praetorian Bounty: The People's Guild Challenge

javiss challenge.png

In this article, Javiss recounts their journey to defeat Yabapmatt after TPG placed a bounty on him. After days of searching, Javiss finally finds Yabapmatt, a formidable opponent with a rating of 4000. Despite the challenge, Javiss takes on Yabapmatt in a battle, using Tofu as their summoner of choice. Yabapmatt, however, pulls a sneaky move, using Risqruel Drath’s taunt to take advantage of the Fury ruleset, making Javiss’s tank vulnerable.

The fight is governed by three rulesets: Melee Mayhem, Equalizer, and Ferocity. Both players mostly ignore the melee ruleset, but the Equalizer and Ferocity rules prove critical. Yabapmatt's tank strategy falters when his fiend proves too weak, leaving his Pyrewatch Devil exposed. Javiss, meanwhile, manages to poison Yabapmatt’s Thane and outlasts the damage, thanks to powerful healing.

In the end, Javiss secures the win, walking away with SPS rewards. Reflecting on the battle, Javiss acknowledges that Yabapmatt's strategy was clever, but a few missed opportunities allowed Javiss to claim victory.

@saydie: Yabapmatt's Subjugation Report: The First Praetorian Bounty

saydie challenge.png

In this article, Saydie recounts their journey to capture Yabapmatt after TPG placed a bounty on him for unpaid debts to Gwen from the Glint Shop. Saydie searches across Praetoria, battling many opponents before finally locating Yabapmatt, who uses powerful creatures from Rebellion and Chaos Legion.

The battle rulesets were Five Alive, Unprotected, and Maneuvers, with a 31-mana cap. Saydie anticipates that Yabapmatt will use Eternal Tofu to capitalize on the rulesets but instead chooses a magic-heavy lineup led by Lorkus. Saydie selects Immortalis as the summoner, providing void protection against magic damage, and uses Mycelic Slipspawn as a tank to absorb high melee attacks with its Forcefield ability.

Despite Yabapmatt's strong strategy, Saydie's predictions and countermeasures work, and the match proceeds in Saydie’s favor. By round 4, Yabapmatt’s team is defeated, leading to his capture. However, Yabapmatt is soon bailed out by uncle Aggy, ending his short imprisonment. Saydie closes the report hoping this experience teaches Yabapmatt not to cause Gwen further stress.

@ghostlybg: The People's Guild Challenge: The First Praetorian Bounty

bounty poster.png

In this article, GhostlyBG recounts their adventure of capturing the notorious Yabapmatt after TPG issued a challenge to bring him to justice. After searching all over Praetoria, GhostlyBG finally finds Yabapmatt, who had shapeshifted into Lorkus, but his nametag revealed his true identity. Yabapmatt attempted to call for help, but due to the ongoing Bear Market, no backup arrived.

The battle was fought under the rulesets Earthquake, Wands Out, and What Doesn’t Kill You, with a 25-mana cap. GhostlyBG chose the Dragon Element and used Void Dragon as the main tank for its flying ability and magic resistance. They also selected Redwyrm Dragon and Adelade Brightwing to support their team with flying, stun, armor repair, and resurrection abilities.

After a few rounds of combat, GhostlyBG's team managed to break through Yabapmatt’s defenses, defeating his units by round three. Yabapmatt was successfully captured and locked behind the bars of GhostlyBG's Mage Wagon, awaiting pickup before he tries to escape.
