Composting

I only just recently started composting properly, and I am hyped about it and upset that they never taught us about this in school or anything... I didn't know before just how cool this was. I knew of course that microbes break stuff down all the time, and that it can be exothermic, and that microbes generally work faster in hotter environments, but seeing that all come together in a compost pile is amazing! the inside of the pile is HOT, and it's all steamy, directly from the energy of the chemical reactions performed by all the microbes inside. And to my amazement, it doesn't smell bad at all, it's all aerobic and is just totally fine! and it's amazing to see these compostable containers I put in the pile just a day or two ago now completely covered in fungus working hard to break it all down. and by the end of it all, I'll have a giant pile of extremely fertile soil! if the method I'm using is accurate, should be a fully composted pile in just a few weeks! And to think, we constantly throw stuff in landfill that could just be composted, where it would produce mostly CO2 instead of CH4, where it all turns into valuable nutrients when it would otherwise be turning into a toxic mixture of leechate. and our ancestors did this all the damn time, because once upon a time, there weren't any landfills! wtf were we thinking
why aren't we teaching this to kids, it's so fascinating, the macro effects of these microbiomes would be an awesome science and life skills journey
I've always wanted to get into gardening but never had the housing security to do it, since for a while the longest time I had been in the same house was about 6 months. but I've found recently that I can find buckets from restaurants that were used for yogurt and stuff and grow in those, giving me the ability to move my garden with me!
