Be Mindful of your Defense in a "Ferocity" Fight - A Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets Challenge Entry

In the context of war, the word ferocity describes the intense and relentless nature of combat, where parties engage with extreme aggression and determination to achieve their objectives. It often involves brutal tactics, unyielding resolve, and a willingness to endure significant losses to achieve victory. Always, a ferous team looks out for a will at all costs and they do this with a vehement attack strategy.

Many anonymous and known writers have shared their piece on the subject of Ferocity when it comes to war and battles. One said, "Ferocity in battle is like a flame; it can consume both friend and foe if not harnessed with wisdom and restraint."

In the Splinterlaands game, the Ferocity ruleset provides that all units have the Fury ability. It is advised that players should think carefully before including a unit with Taunt in their lineup as they will take double damage from units with Fury. Sun Tzu is credited with saying that "Fury is a powerful ally in battle, but it must be tempered by discipline and strategy.". This means that in battle, fury can be a weapon, but it must be wielded with precision, lest it consume those who harness it.

When I drew this ferocity ruleset battle with 28 manna cap, I knew it was time to pick the best monster units since all units in the battlefield would have received the "fury' ability. Five monster units: Nerissa Tridawn (9), Deeplurker (6), Merdaali Guardian (3), Ice Pixie (2) and Kulu SmimMonster (4) were summoned by Kelya Frendul for the battle. My choice of Kelya Frendul as sommoner is based on the fact that it is a water summoner that gives +1 speed and +1 armor to all friendly monsters. The additional +1 armor means a lot for my defense in a melee battle.

The enemy used Tarsa to summoner Six monsters including Antoid Platoon and Kenyii Striker for the battle. That was a scary fight at first sight since all units gained an extra melee attack and health. Strangely, the enemy team had Ferox Defender with the "Protect" ability that adds +2 armor to all its friendly monsters.

At the end of the first round, all monsters on the battlefield were intact. None was damaged. I was already scared for my team but the unexpected happened. See the screenshots below.

It was a fierce fight that lasted for 7 rounds. For each team, we had just one monster unit left. I won but with just two strikes away.

Winning Strategy

You could notice that up to the third round, the enemy team still had an advantage because Kulu SwimMonster was still in the team. Thanks to Deeplurker who seized the opportunity to damage that monster so as to deplete 2 armor each from their remaining monster units. This made the battle a little easier for me.

The strategy I used to win the battle was that I was conscious of my defense while also looking for the best opportunity to dislodge the strength of their defense. The enemy team was furious to win the battle, but their defense had a loophole.

Playing this battle ruleset requires a lot of discipline as Sun Tzu said. Again, fury can be a weapon, but it must be wielded with precision, lest it consume those who harness it.

i would use this strategy time and again but will look for ways to make my defense stronger.

Have you played a Splinterlands Battle with a "Ferocity" ruleset? What was your winning strategy?
