Good Strategy Wins Battle with "Commons" - A Splinterlands' Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry
Splinterlands battle game ruleset is a beautiful twist in the game that helps the players get versatile with across all categories and ratings. Every player would always want the legendary cards with huge stats in his deck but when rulesets like Rise of the Commons are drawn, it makes every player lookout for the "not so desired common cards".
Having to win battles with the less stat and ability studded card can be difficult if strategy is lacking . It calls for carefulness and wisdom. My experience using two common cards against a strong team was intriguing but interesting at the end.
My Battle Strategy and Experience
I was opportune to draw another Rise of the Commons ruleset with 18 manna cap. That was just 1 manna less of my previous battle attempt with the same ruleset. I had spent a lot of time trying to figure out which cards would be suitable because I needed a win at all cost. At the nib of time expiration, I settled for Serpent of Eld (7) with Dodge ability and Deeplurker (6) with opportunity ability. The two monsters plus the Kelya Frendul summoner covered 17 manna.
The opponent team staged Cursed Windeku (6, thorns ability), Life Sapper (3, Life leach), Venari Bonesmith (4, Life leach) and Carrion Shade (1) led by a summoner that sought to drain my magic attack and health. Good that I did not field a magic attack monster but the health of my two monster units were depleted at the start of the battle.
At face value of the two squads, the opponent team had an advantage with accumulated health stat of 16 while my team's health totaled 11 plus 4 armor stat. I had to rely solely on my attack abilities but the sight of Cursed Windeku (6) with the thorns ability was scary since my two monsters were melee attacks. It would be fierce fight for my team.
My team's advantage propped up when Deeplurker would destroy the second monster in the enemy team at first shot. Thanks to the improved speed. We're left two monster units against three. However, by the end of the second round, I lost my lead monster against two monsters from the enemy team. See screnshots.
It looked impossible but I won after five rounds of battle duels. With just 2 health left, Deeplurker survived courtesy of increased speed. It's crucial to note that despite fronting a weak team in face value, the right strategy secured a win. Sometimes a card character without big attack and health stats looks like a weakling, however, some turn out to be so powerful when placed right and used with the right enhancing summoner.
Winning this battle using common cards again proves that unity and Strength of purpose can surmount any class of big armory. It was an interesting battle for me and I'm glad I won. The strategy can be utilised again under those conditions.
