Lost Legendaries isn't Lost Brains - Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets
One of Sun Tzu's quotes in "The Art of War" is that "In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity." This quote reflects the idea that even when top-tier resources or leaders are unavailable, there are still opportunities to innovate, adapt, and find success through strategic thinking and resourcefulness. This quote captures the essence of adapting and thriving even without elite resources. This is the wisdom behind the Lost Legendaries ruleset in the Splinterlands battle.
In the Splinterlands game, the "Lost Legendaries" ruleset provides that legendary cards cannot be used in the battle. This changes the strategy significantly, as players need to rely on non-legendary cards, which may affect their usual team composition and tactics.
This ruleset in a typical war situation can be metaphorically understood to represent scenarios where the most elite, skilled, or experienced units and leaders are not available for deployment. It could be that there are no top commanders, that is, strategic Leaders. The absence of legendary cards could represent the unavailability of key strategic leaders and commanders who possess extraordinary tactical skills and experience.
In other words, lost legendaries' ruleset in a typical war situation would mean dependence on standard forces, that is, regular troops. here, armies would have to depend on regular infantry, cavalry, and support units. These units, while capable, may not have the exceptional abilities of elite forces. Also, they troop would depend on standard equipment. There are no sophistication. Without the best equipment or technology (analogous to legendary gear), forces would have to make do with standard-issue weaponry and armor.
This battle ruleset requires a strategic and tactical shift. Alternative tactics are required. Here, commanders would need to employ different strategies and tactics, focusing on the strengths and synergies of their standard units. Guerrilla warfare, ambushes, and defensive strategies might be more prevalent. A key component of the strategy required to win this kind of battle is "resourcefulness". Emphasis would be placed on resourcefulness, utilizing terrain, supply lines, and intelligence to compensate for the lack of elite capabilities.
As I drew this battle with the lost legendaries, ruleset, it dawned on me that the set of monster units that could be used are not sophisticated. I had to settle for the monster units I have used time and again and I'm conversant with their best positions and capabilities.
Being an 18 manna cap battle, I summoned the battle with Kelya Frendul (4) water summoner. Monster units were Nerrisa Tridawn (9) with no special ability, Merdaali Guardian (3) with Tank Heal ability, and Ice Pixie (2) with Flying ability. All my monster units received +1 speed and +1 armor from the summoner. However, all the enemy monsters were studded with special abilities. See the screenshots below.
The first round of the battle was completed without the loss of a monster unit. Both teams looked strong. However, by the second round, both teams lost one monster unit each.
During the third round, both teams lost one monster unit each leaving a pair of monsters to face each other in the fourth and last round.
A mere sight of the two lone monsters facing themselves in the last round, one could tell the winning side. All thanks to my two magic monsters (Nerrisa Tridawn and Ice Pixie) with the strong support of the tank healer monster, Merdaali Guardian, we won.
Using magic attack monsters for the battle was the best option since all cards that could be fielded were not super-monsters. using magic attack makes attack easier and on target to the health of the enemy monsters.
Tips for Winning in "Lost Legendaries" Ruleset
With my winning in mind and in line with the background afore presented, winning a lost legendary battle in the SPlinterlands game would require the following:
- Know Your Cards and use cards you know: Be familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of your non-legendary cards. Go for the cards you really know how to use. This is done by experimenting with your cards under different conditions.
- Adaptability: Be ready to adapt your strategy based on your opponent's lineup. Flexibility can be key in overcoming the loss of legendary cards.
- Practice: The more you play under this ruleset, the better you'll understand how to leverage your non-legendary cards effectively. Don't get obsessed with the super cards in your deck.
Remember, you only lost legendaries characters, even the common monsters still have their brains and they can perform exceptionally well under a super strategy.
