Playing the Splinterlands game is beyond found for me. I do extensive research each time I draw a battle ruleset to study how such is applicable in real-life situations. It is always interesting to find out that there are deep strategy for success and combating life challenges when you understand how best to engage a given battle ruleset in the Splinterlands game.

Lost Magic is an amazing battle ruleset that will spur critical thinking, creativity, and improvisation from any Splinterlands player. In Splinterlands, the "Lost Magic" ruleset is a special condition that alters gameplay. Under this ruleset, all Magic attack monsters are unable to use their Magic attacks. Also, monsters with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used.

The ruleset description advises that players can use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks and use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks.

In a real-world war or battle situation, the "Lost Magic" ruleset from Splinterlands can be metaphorically applied to situations where certain types of weaponry or tactics are rendered ineffective or unavailable. Possible scenarios that analyze the ruleset are as follows:

  1. Electronic Warfare and Electromagnetic pulse (EMPs): Just as the Lost Magic ruleset disables magic attacks, an electromagnetic pulse can disable electronic equipment and systems, forcing combatants to rely on non-electronic weaponry and tactics.

  2. Environmental Factors: Harsh weather conditions or terrain can neutralize certain types of weapons. For instance, heavy rain can render some electronic or infrared targeting systems less effective, just as the Lost Magic ruleset disables magic attacks.

  3. Resource Depletion: This can happen in prolonged conflict, where the depletion of specific resources (like ammunition for a particular weapon type) can force armies to adapt by using alternative tactics or weapons. This is similar to how players must adapt when magic attacks are disabled in Splinterlands.

All the scenarios above point to the fact that there is the necessity to adapt and strategize effectively when a specific, previously relied-upon capability is no longer available.

In this battle with 25 manna cap, my team comprised of Corsair Bosun (10), Pelacor Arbalet (6), Celestial Harpy (2) and Truthspeaker (3) summoned by General Sloan (4). This summoner adds +1 ranged attack to all range attack monster units. All the units were life cards.

The lead monster, Corsair Bosun has the "Reflection shield" ability which prevents this monster from taking damage from Blast, magic reflect, thorns, or Return fire. That was an anti-melee and ranged attack ability. Also, in my team, Pelacor Arbalet's "double strike" ability was significant as it attacks twice per round. See screenshots of the battle below.

The first round of the battle was very fierce. Both teams were strong enough and no monster was destroyed. However, at the end of the second round, I lost my last monster which was a non-attacking monster.

By the end of the third round, the tables turned. The enemy team had lost three of its monster units already, while my lead monster was still active and attacking.

The battle lasted for five rounds, and we won. My team still had four monster units alive at the end of the battle.

How to win your Battles with "Lost Magic" Ruleset

With my experiences of success winning battles with the "lost magic" ruleset, here are the tips to help you win when playing with the Lost Magic ruleset:

  1. Avoid using monsters that primarily rely on Magic attacks, rather, focus on Melee and Ranged Attack Monsters.
  2. Consider using monsters that can provide buffs, debuffs, or other support roles that don't rely on Magic attacks. See in my case, Corsair Bosun was so powerful.
  3. Adapt your strategy to ensure you can still effectively defeat your opponent without relying on Magic attacks. I have been a top fan of magic attack monsters but the first time I encountered the "lost magic" ruleset, I learnt to create an alternative strategy that does not require magic attack cards and this is when I will use Life cards.

"Lost Magic" Ruleset inspires Improvisations. DO well to adjust your team composition and strategy to align with the Lost Magic ruleset, you can still create a competitive edge and secure victories in Splinterlands battles.
