Never "Take Sides" in a Conflict You Know Nothing About- A Splinterlands' Battle Mage Secret Challenge Entry
Elie Weisel is credited to have said "I swore never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." Such powerful words from a Romanian-born American writer, professor, political activist, Nobel laureate, and Holocaust survivor. While I take a stand with Elie Weisel that being neutral helps the oppressor to pounce more on the victim, we must be very sure who's the victim. In today's world, many oppressors have played the victim and earned the pity of many who stood on their side to further annihilate the real victim. Thus, it is important to be well-versed in the terms of the conflict before taking sides. This makes me affirm Never "Take Sides" in a Conflict You Know Nothing About.
Taking Sides is a ruleset in Splinterlands battles that allows No neutral units to be used. The battle ruleset provides that only those prepared for war may come to the battlefield. This allows each team to fortify themselves to their very best and ensure that they are coming to the battle for a win or nothing. The ruleset allows no lukewarmness or subtle behaviors on the battlefield. The opponent cannot infiltrate the enemy's camp in a guise that they look like or are dressed as they are. There is a clear distinction between the two sides and only a defeat of one side can lead to the battle's end.
My BattleExperience with Taking Sides Ruleset
I drew this battle with Take Sides ruleset and 21 manna cap. It was a call to go for my best monster units and summoner. I settled for my water monster units with Kelya Frendul leading the battle. The manna cap allowed for at least Three monster units in my team including Serpent of Eld (7), Nerissa Tridawn (9), and Hary StoneFish (1). Hary StoneFish was just to complete the manna cap and serve as a distraction for the enemy's team. It was a fight against 4 monsters with a combination of powerful abilities such as Void armor, tank heal, Divine shield, and slow. It was meant to be a very fierce fight for my temam and it actually was. Nerissa Tridawn (9) was my best unit and I had to shield it from initial combat, hence, positioned it in the middle of the lineup. Below are the screenshots. Nerissa Tridawn (9) was my best unit and I had to shield it from initial combat, hence, positioned it in the middle of the lineup. Below are the screenshots.
All monster units from both teams stayed strong through the first round of the battle. That was a show of real preparation for the battle. It was fierce through the second round until my team lost the last monster unit. The speed of my monsters was reduced due to the "slow" ability of the enemy team.
My team gathered momentum in the third round of the battle and successfully destroyed 2 of the enemy monsters. That was a huge relief. The armor from the water splinter summoner was a huge defense for my team. Nerissa Tridawn gave her best from the rear with her huge magic attack. Indeed, the battle did not require a neutral splinter. We had to deploy the tactics that I've the water monsters an edge in the battle.
After Six rounds of fierce combat, we won but with just one monster standing - Nerissa Tridawn. It was a sweet win because my team got it right with strategy despite opposing a very strong enemy. The synergy between the water units from my team was unique and the more reason, we didn't need a neutral monster to take sides.
Sometimes, taking sides may tweaking the strength of the victim, especially when the details of the conflict is not well known. Sometimes, you would just have to eave them to right to an end, lest the fight continues another day. My team stood through and secured their win without an intruder. it was a worthy win!
