I wonder if the rentals will shoot up like crazy once land is introduced. Locking up a bunch of summoners and monster cards might do the trick for some more passive income.

I would like to think so. I have a decent chunk of land and am making preparations for its arrival. Cards of all types are going to shoot up when it happens.
