Adapting to Modern: Getting More Depth For Water Splinter

Prelude
In my last post on adapting to modern, I shared on some of the top performing cards that one can consider to purchase, but that is only one part of the puzzle. In order to grow and fight in a viable manner in the leagues you want, not only do you need to have width in terms of collection size, you also need depth as well because being under levelled will most of the time result you losing your match as well.

Adaptation Begins
You must thinking I am crazy, spending to have width in terms of collection and now to build more depth and having more levelled up cards. It is sure a very big monetary commitment. I couldn't agree more as I am feeling the same pain.

My Plan
Pick a Splinter that you are most comfortable in or with can use in most context.

For me, I am continuously working on Water Splinter. I have been working on it for quite a while since I first started.

Summoner: Level 3 Kelya
This allows me to play up to Level 4 common, Level 3 rare, Level 2 epic and Level 2 Legendary.

So with this, what I need to do is to build my cards up to what my summoner can actually play. I follow the card rating for each league by SplinterGuide to see what cards needs to be levelled up in priority.

As suggested by SplinterGuide, these are the Water Splinter cards that I should be working on and levelling them up. (Soul Bound cards will be skipped since only way to obtain is through Glint).

Captain Fellblade - This card is phenomenal and I yet to own a copy. No doubt something that should be levelled up.

Anasth Soothsayer - Initially I thought I saw wrong but the rating that was given to this card is just behind Captain Fellblade. I think the reason for high rating was that it can cleanse and heal, which is versatile and help bring more survivability to the team.

Daarg Deadblast - A costly card which is currently priced approximately at $13 but with it having Weapons Training, certainly make it a really good card as it can make Scavo Hireling or Meerdali Guardian gain magic attack. This card temporarily will KIV in view of the price.

Diemonshark - I already have this at level 2, I guess I will continue to build it up as it is not costly.

Baakjira - Another fantastic card which gives many good abilities to buff the lineup. Price is still rather acceptable, will try to level it up accordingly.

Pirate of Eight - I am surprised to see this because it is very similar to Tide Biter but somehow given a much higher rating. I am suspecting it is due to the blast ability which gives additional pain to opponent when facing it. I don't own this card yet, but will look to get a few copies to make a levelled up one into the collection.

Angelic Mandarin - A cheaper alternative to Spirit Hoarder, currently only at Level 2, so I will level it up to get the Triage.

River Hellondale - I love this card because it allows me double martyr. For now maybe I won't touch it as it is already doing me what I need.

For today I will cover till this part and continue the next time. These cards will be worked on in priority upon nailing it at the right price.

Wrap Up
I know playing in Modern has a very different kind of stress that require more upgrading and width in terms of collection as there are people whom have been in modern for quite a while and have upgraded their deck to a state that is hard to compete against. But nevertheless, since I am adapting, I will also continue to build my cards to make myself stable in modern one splinter at a time.
