Adapting to Modern: Progress Update

Prelude
In my last post on adapting to modern, I shared on some strategies that I will adopt because of my gameplay will be moving to modern due to the recent changes from Splinterlands which makes Wild not such a viable place to be playing if you do not have a substantial pool of staked SPS and also the additional Wild Pass cost requirements to play in Wild. Hence in today, I will continue to share on my updates in my adaptation to be more viable in modern.

Adaptation Begins
The comfortable bullying of bots for lower card collection players is no longer there due to the massive efforts from the developers to get rid of bots. No matter how, throughout the journey of Splinterlands, many of us went through loads of adaptation and this time is no different. So let's begin.

Monitoring The Top Battles
To be honest the fastest way to learn how to adapt to the modern gameplay is to look at how others do it.

So the best reference is actually to look at the top battles in modern. Through looking at those battles and the selection of cards, one will be able to delve into what kind of gameplay or typical cards used in modern than to splurge on many cards and then regret spending because the cards bought end up not really being used.

From what I've observed so far, a few cards stand out that somehow always appear in the matches. Let me list it down so that it can be of reference to the community.

Fire

  • Gobalano Solder (Rebellion)
  • Torch Vizier (Rebellion)
  • Tenyii Striker (Chaos Legion)
  • Ferox Defender (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Ash Mirage (Riftwatchers)

Water

  • Coastal Sentry (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Swamp Spitter (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Merdaali Guardian (Chaos Legion)
  • Djinn Oshannus (Rewards)
  • Daigendark Surveyor (Rebellion)

Death

  • Skok Duskblight (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Ravenhood Warden (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Helheim Demon (Rebellion)
  • Usut (Soulbound Rewards)

Earth

  • Quora Towershead (Gladius)
  • Queen Mycelia (Chaos Legion)
  • Fungus Flinger(Soulbound Rewards)
  • Mycelic Slipspawn (Chaos Legion)
  • Katrelba Gobson (Gladius)

Life

  • Anarchon Bolter (Rebellion)
  • Time Mage (Chaos Legion)
  • Drybone Barbarian (Soulbound Rewards)
  • War Pegasus (Soulbound Rewards)
  • Iziar (Soulbound Rewards)

Neutral

  • Scavo Hireling (Chaos Legion)
  • Moxian Rebel (Rebellion)
  • Spirit Hoarder (Chaos Legion)
  • Mad Ogre Anarchist (Rebellion)
  • Uraeus (Rewards)
  • Venari Marksrat (Soulbound Rewards)

If you look at the above list of cards, it is quite amazing that quite a fair bit is at the reach of many players as long as they are active and continuously accumulate Glint or taking part in Guild Brawls. Being active and accumulating ingame assets in Glint or Merits, one will be able to upgrade their Soul Bound reward cards and Gladius cards.

Otherwise, for the remaining portion with regards to the regular sets, other than Queen Mycelia which is a Legendary cards, the remaining are essentially common or rare cards of their respective sets. With the known cards that are commonly used in our knowledge, my personal take is to prepare all the summoners and get them levelled up.

One good source of summoners will be from the Glint store through buying rare chest where the summoners are. And through that, not only you are able to level up summoners and these are the summoners that can enable the use of Gladius cards, which gives double the value. I've seen the influence of Gladius in matchup especially when one faces Quora in a slightly lower mana match and Quora can totally munch you out given how strong she is.

Knowing This, What's Next?
So with this, the strategy will be on planning what to get on Glint. For me, I am still short of a number of Legendary Soulbound Reward cards, so for me, focus will be to as quickly as possible to expand the collection for more cards for me to select during matches, then move onto levelling up all the Conscript summoners are high as possible and followed by maxing the remaining Soulbound cards. This will not be a short term process but more long term as we embark on accumulating more Glint and there seems to be more reward cards coming as well.

Wrap Up
I will continue to share on my adaptation on moving towards modern and how I am increasing my collection in modern cards to handle this. I do like to see my collection grow. Modern is actually quite fun as it really stretches your mind to do the best out of what you have with a limited variety of cards.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern as we journey on playing Splinterlands.

I like this mindset
My progression in the modern league has not shown positive outcome, but I remain confident that it will be better next season
