Discussing Splinterlands - At The Crossroads

Good day to all, there is a strong commotion that is happening recently that is potentially going to shake Splinterlands players by storm, with a possible outcome of Splinterlands leaving the Hive blockchain.

Because this is gonna be game changing, I started this post to do a little discussion on the situation that is happening.

The above link is a proposal from the Splinterlands company requesting for a 500k HBD funding that will be paid out daily at 2777 HBD per day for the next 6 months to fund development and operations for running the game on the blockchain. Further details on the proposal can be found in the link to the post shared above.

One thing in the proposal caught my eye is that there is discussion on moving out of Hive blockchain should the developers were unable to secure funding for further development here and it was shared that other blockchains are offering grants to encourage projects to be built on their chain.

This raises the alarm in me about the game. I've started playing Splinterlands since late 2021 and this is the first time I come across a game changing situation like this. I came across many comments, discussion with regards to this proposal be it within Hive, Discord or even on X. People whom agree with the proposal are saying that the funding is well deserved for the developers but there is also another group of people whom are saying that this is an exploitation of the DHF. Both groups shared valid points on their basis of their arguement.

For me, 1 thing that I would like to see is on the breakdown on how the funding will be used than just a statement of funding development and operations. I think for all funding request, it will be good to share exactly how much is being designated for each aspect of the funding. If the numbers are clear, realistic to the involved cost of the items to be spent, I am certain that this will garner more support as transparency breeds confidence.

I know to maintain a game is hard work, much more that it is on a blockchain which has more mechanics to be taken care of, funding is needed to maintain and also develop it. At this moment, I have yet to make my decision yet but as of now, the proposal is currently at 15M votes.

As far as it goes, I know with my current staked HP of 7000, my vote does not move the needle much as compared to others whom have bigger influences in the blockchain. At the very moment, I am also very uncertain what will be the outcome of the DHF proposal. But no matter how, time will tell and we will either have to adapt accordingly to how things turn out or worse case call it quits.

If you are a Splinterlands player, do your own research and evaluate your own gaming experience then decide whether or not to support the proposal. Let's see how things turn out with 4 days to go.

Until then, I will still continue playing Splinterlands like how I have been playing.

The game is still fun as it is. But because the game involves monetary assets, people tend to get emotional because of investment and time spent. Like the old Chinese saying goes, "Talking about money will hurt relationships."

Which is more important to you, the fun part or the money part? I am certain the game had brought to many of you loads of fun over the years. The road ahead is threading over muddy waters, so hang in tight and wait for the dust to settle. Whether or not there will be a good outcome or not when the results are out, I am thankful that throughout this journey when playing Splinterlands or even engaging in the various communities on Hive, I have met loads of amazing people especially pthe guys from metafrens discord such as @relf87 and @blitzzzz and also the Pizza Gang from the Hive Pizza Community.
