Social Media Challenge - Oshannus Overlook Magic Reflect

Prelude
Good day to all, how are all of you doing? Switching back to Modern really is like a relearning experience as I have to replan on my lineup and ensure what I am putting up still works in modern as compared to previously in wild. A lot of my old combos are no longer valid due to them being mixed across modern and wild.

In today's post, I will be sharing on one of my favourite cards for me playing Splinterlands and how it does well in a ruleset that is actually against its attack kind but somehow it shines in it.

Coming into modern ranked battle, not just I have to fight with crazily high levelled cards, finding replacement for my existing wild cards were important as well. I no longer have the like of Sand Worm, Creeping Ooze at my disposal. But it's fun to rediscover myself and find what works well in the modern battles. Let's go right in to the battle itself and see how I've adapted into playing for modern.

Today's Battle Sharing

Ruleset: Magic Reflect
Mana Limit: 40

Selection Analysis
40 mana match, means we are able to put in a decent amount of big hitters. Magic reflect lineup will signify that there will be reduced amount of Magic Attackers being fielded and likely gonna be heavy melee.

For me, what I fielded will be Baakjira to take the role of a tank with its 3 abilities of Void, Slow and Strengthen. Because it didn't have attack, I put a Kulu Mastermind right behind it to give Weapons Training and by itself have opportunity. Next will be something important in the likes of Scavo Hireling whom also gets Weapon Trained and also having Repair to restore any lost armour. Next will be the star of the match, Djinn Oshannus which I will explain later. Followed by Swamp Spitter whom also do repair and lastly Pelacor Bandit to sneak from the back.

Now onto my opponent, he used Diemonshark as a tank which is quite a decent choice because of its speed and high armour. My opponent also used Djinn Oshannus. Following which is Deeplurker which is a real good card and my opponent's one is levelled and had poison. Next will be Venari Wavesmith to give additional armour, then followed by 2 sneakers. Overall, something to note is that my opponent is using a lineup that is way more levelled up than mine.

Lineups are in very similar nature but I do up more on the repair front to ensure more resistance towards melee.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - A round that had loads of exchange here and there across both sides with no actual casualties. However, 2 key things, one is the reflect damage onto Wavesmith and also the poison inflicted onto my Scavo Hireling which meant next round, it will fall.

Round 2 - As expected, Scavo Hireling fell right at the start of the round and the subsequently Kulu Mastermind smashes home onto Wavesmith and the rest of my team continue to shave off the armour of Diemonshark and its health. Baakjira holding strong.

Turn 3 - My Oshannus easily disposed off opponent's Diemonshark then the rest of the lineup continued working onto the new target, opponent's Oshannus. My Pelacor Bandit fell victim to sneak and my Swamp Spitter got poisoned.

Turn 4 - More damage shelled towards opponent's Oshannus while Kulu Mastermind struck again, taking out Uraeus. Things are getting closer as few cards remain on the field

Round 5 and 6 - In the final 2 rounds, my lineup disposed off whatever remaining in the lineup while seeing casualty in Swamp Spitter. In Round 6, we wrap everything and secured the victory.

Battle Summary
An interesting match where in my case where opponent had loads of armour, the path into them is actually to use Oshannus to zap their cards without worry as the Magic Reflect is being fended off by the Void that Oshannus carry. And essentially, this was what helped me because the Void of Baakjira was the great curb into opponent's attack. The rest other good thing was the trained up Baakjira actually contributed to the attack and helped clear the front.

I am still adapting into the modern battles and trying to utilize the whatever I have in my collection that can be used for modern. And with the knowing of how good Oshannus in such a ruleset, it will be something that I will use whenever I encounter this ruleset in the future.
