Burning Splinterlands cards to make them more scarce to increase their value (2022.02.02)
I bought a Pelacor Deceiver for 10.226 DEC ($0.03 USD).
Just to burn it. I received almost the half of its price back.
Of course I would need to burn much much more cards, not just/only one to actually increase its price. But this is the idea. Burning cards. Currently there are too many Splinterlands cards in circulation, so the supply is too high for the current demand. This is why the average card prices are too low. This is why the card burning is a good idea. If there are less cards, then their prices will be higher.
For example at the time of the writing of this post, there are 757 232 Pelacor Deceiver cards in circulation. I think that even the half of this amount would be too much. Hopefully more people will start burning cards like this.
To me it makes more sense to lvl card up it takes out cards of circulation since a lvl 1 common needs 5 cards to level up to lvl 2. Burning 4 cards and only one remaining.
Yes. And to use leveled up monsters, we have to level up summoners too.
I imagined how different #Splinterlands would be if we don't need to upgrade Summoners first before being able to use Monsters with their upgraded levels.
Anyway, I understand that by burning Cards, you immediately get some DEC back, while upgrading Monsters by burning Cards of the same type won't give you any benefit unless you have upgraded Summoners. In this case, I just upgrade those Monsters anyway, then benefit from the upgraded Levels in case I manage to buy/win/rent a (Level 1) Legendary Summoner Card, which has Monster Level Caps equivalent to that of a Level 2 Rare Summoner.
I give you some !PGM and some !LUV.
100 PGM token to send 0.1 PGM three times per day
500 to send and receive 0.1 PGM five times per day
1000 to send and receive 0.1 PGM ten times per day

And don't forget "combine". It reduce circulation too.
Yes. When we "level up" a card, that is also some kind of burning.
As I said on my other comment, combining Cards instead of burning them for DEC not only gives you a "reserve" Card in case you get an Upgraded/Legendary Summoner, but also gives you more Collection Power you need to reach a higher League (and get a bit higher SPS airdrop).

If too many cards are burned, won't there be less for players to play with? Meaning new players won't have as many cards to choose from? If the player base of the game keeps increasing, will burning cards have a negative effect on the Splinterlands community? Sure each card will be worth more, but at what cost? If new people are dissuaded from playing, the popularity will stagnate and nobody will want to buy the cards anyway.
This is where the rarity comes into play. There are already cards, which has only a few thousand cards in circulation. Of course I am not saying that we should burn the majority of the cards. We need to find the proper balance level between supply and demand. Or at least this is what I currently think as a relatively old Splinterlands player (I am playing Splinterlands since 2018.12.30).
It would certainly be interesting to read other people's opinions about this subject.
