Few useful tools!

Few useful tools for new blogger

In this post I will randomly list a few tools that I use for posting and consuming articles and other content at hive in not particular order. This post is geared towards new bloggers and some old veterans at Splinterlands who are either coming back to blogging or started to blog and knows their way around hive blockchain quite a bit. This is no beginner guide, but beginners may find something useful here.

Front-End

Hive being decentralized have multiple ways that may be used to create content. These different tools and all part of hive blockchain and all publishes and uses the same blockchain. These are called front-end. It's native tool is hive.blog, which I have used for a long time. It does have the mandatory dark-mode, without which I won't even consider writing anything personally. I did use it for a while, but I don't anymore, because it doesn't have the side-by-side writer and display.

Popular front ends are:

  • peakd, it has a nice "how it works" video on its landing page
  • ecency, I have never used, but does have the dark mode
  • inleo, I haven't used it in recent time, but used in Leofinance days, yes' to dark mode

These are the three main front ends (and the 4th, default hive.blog) people mostly used these days. These are also the one I personally have some experience with. Personally 95% of the time, or maybe even 99% of the time, I use peakd. I am just familiar with it. I think it has the right mix of utility and aesthetics which the other front ends lack, obviously this is my personal preference and opinion. The cover image is a tribute to that liking.

There are other front-ends that are available out there, the full list maybe obtained here.

A hidden part of PeakD

When in PeakD how many of you clicked on dashboard? I am going to guess, not too many. Next time please consider doing that.

image.png

When you click of "dashboard", it opens a page like below:

image.png

Yeah, rather cool, eh? You should explore all the buttons here. I am not going to go through each as that will take a lot of writing and lot of time. However, if there is one button that you can't miss, that is the 'analytics' button.

image.png

This is the page I like the most. It gives you an overview on how are you doing as a blogger. It give me my current voting mana: 89%; I am doing good on curation. You can track the progress of your account on this page, like I did. Please look into the details of my comments in yellow. Don't forget to click on 'more data' for an wider view of your history.

Same page; but now a month of history

image.png

Scrolling down gives me more ideas about my posting and comment histories. Also my incoming and outgoing votes. Maybe you like to check out who is voting you consistently and try and do some networking.

image.png

Next on the views and visotors tab, you can get an idea how many views a specific posts is getting. If that number is 1, it is mostly you! So maybe it is time to do something different!

image.png

In short, these are the few features I like the most on peakD, and I don't think too many people use this page, and they should. Please let me know if this was helpful at all. Especially for SL players, who are looking to be more consistent bloggers and who wants other people to read your stuff, I think this is an easy place you can explore and improve on.

Great stuff!, love this kind of article, really helps fill out the jig-saw that is the Hive ecosystem.

So, to write on PeakD you just hit that pencil icon on the top right and off you go, is that it ?

Yes true, I prefer this front-end in the ecosystem. And I think some of my onboarded bloggers also prefer this one.

I'm going to check it often from now on: I have an idea on what are my posts that someone may like to read and what are the ones very very very few me be interested in, but having some "real" data is always nice.

You need to network, if you don't talk to people how people will know you exist? People typically like to vote people they know.

Lately I'm trying to be more active and engaged, mostly because as the more time passes the more I feel confortable talking - well, writing! - to those authors whose post I often read.

Also I'm finding the Orcas/Whales don't bite, and that also helps ahahah

Yes. Whales bite is generally a myth or an urban legend anyways

I agree, peakd is the best place to make your blogs :)

and yes sir, as you know I'm one of the older splinterlands player trying to be a better hive member, my accounts is growing!

it's still hard to get my other, non splinterlands to the same attention , but I won't give up :)

Heck yeah, I've been using PeakD since the beginning and I never even knew the dashboard page existed. Pretty cool. I'm going to have to spend some time digging into that now!

Saludos muy buen post, disculpa una pregunta, ¿alguien me puede informar si ecency tiene problemas no logro acceder?

I don't use ecency much, they do have a discord channel, you can go there and ask

peakd seems to have the best mix of features, but I use the Ecency app on my phone for convenience.

I've not seen many people use the built-in chat. I'd like to use Discord less.

I haven't tried the Ecency app on my phone, I got to do that sometime

Never even knew that page was there lol. I had to stop in the middle of reading to go check it out. Good stuff there.

There you go! @asgarth will be happy if I can help one person to introduce a feature at PeakD I have done my job :)

Thanks for sharing. I also find PeakD to be the most accessible front-end platform. I've tried a bit with inLeo using their threads to work similar to short-form on X, but I just didn't get much of an audience for my mostly Splinterlands posting there.

I've used that dashboard a bunch. Some really fun data there! I also like checking the updates on HiveBuzz to see if I'm on my goal of daily, weekly, and monthly submissions (and Hive Power Up Month).

Short form post for reward is something I struggle with

How come? inLeo has its own token and an ad revenue-generating service that shares the revenue with its users. I'm not as clear how the short form posts get allocated HIVE rewards in addition to LEO rewards, but I'd agree that a short form post is, for the majority of the time, not generating as much attention and lasting information as long form posts.

But if it comes down to attracting users and eyeballs, short form content isn't a terrible place to be.

Yes Leo is a 2nd layer token. They can do it.

Hive is not.

I could add a complement here for those who want to use the InLeo aka LeoFinance front-end.

You have the similarity of using Threads equivalent to Tweets in X(Twitter). But you don't necessarily have to stick to that, if you want to adhere to the classic articles of the others, just go to https://inleo.io/posts/trending which will also contain the communities available in the right layout.

Plus, of course, a new feature, InLeo Shorts. It's similar to platforms like Kwai and TikTok. Accessed via https://inleo.io/shorts

I am personally nor familiar with short-form posting, but I am aware. You have a good point

Agree that peakd is the better of the front ends, I use it both on desktop and mobile. Without issues. The others seem to be not as polished.

However the shorts feature on inleo has promise.

Love this. It would be so handy for newbies to instantly run into this post and a few more guides I've seen being shared along the time as soon as they make their account.

Problem with the views counting is, that it only coubts peakd User.

So if you have only 1 view, you maybe dont have to change something, it could be much more, because users have used ecency, inlel or hive.blog or some other frontend.

yes it is possible, but if you have 10 views in peakd, perhaps you have similar views or less in other front-ends? Likely you do not have 100 views?

Not a "Tools" tip, but still a tip nonetheless.

I found that hive has a decent amount of Spanish speaking people on it. Because of this I, who do not speak a lick of spanish, translate my posts from English to Spanish using google Translate.

It's a good trick to reach more people with your posts!

Translation is widely available these days. Just don’t post an original and then a translation as two different posts, both posted for reward

Yup! Include the translation in your original post!

I agree that Peakd is the better front end. Hive.blog was the first front end I learned of. I found it from the FAQs of Splinterlands. Playing Splinterlands brought me here and got me into blogging as well. Later, I found Splintertalk.io. Then, I found Peakd - I can't remember how I found it but immediately fell in love with its aesthetics. I've been using Peakd from then on.

I found out about the dashboard section in Peak only recently, and I have been using this option for all my progression review.
Thank you for informing the gaming community about these tools.
