Matt About SPS DAO and Hive Proposals for Splinterlands

As I told you in the Week through Adrian's Lenses from Friday, Matt showed up to another conversation with The People's Guild.

I hadn't had time to listen to the 2-hour conversation then, before writing the weekly news roundup, but I did today. I saw in their summary the discussion went far beyond the Voucher proposals topic, which was kind of secondary, but important too.

Where Matt seemed very serious and draw plenty of warning signals was on the importance of 3 future proposals Splinterlands will put forward at the same time, two for SPS DAO and one for the DHF.

He didn't specify when the proposals will be presented, other than they will be concomitant.

He also resisted the insistence and explained why won't the DHF proposal be put forth first and why aren't they asking for more funds from the DHF instead of the SPS DAO on the consideration the DHF is wealthier and Hive is benefiting greatly by having Splinterlands in the ecosystem.

He explained how he sees things separated, and that developing and maintaining the SPS infrastructure is the responsibility of the SPS DAO, and should have been all along, and admitted it was a mistake this wasn't made clear from the beginning how things will stand.

Therefore, the main proposal that will go to the SPS DAO will refer to taking over this responsibility. Basically, Splinterlands has 2 developers working on node validators exclusively now. They expect the SPS DAO to pay them (or hire someone else instead, but that's an unlikely solution) until the validator network is ready and then, until it becomes stable. Afterwards, at least some maintenance work will be required, unless the DAO wants more features built into the validator network.

If the DAO doesn't approve this proposal, the choices are that the two devs won't be paid anymore or they will start working on other Splinterlands-related stuff too.

Matt also described the current "temporary" situation of SPS as a "centralized database", and that node validators work completion is mandatory for SPS to succeed in the long-term.

The additional proposal for the SPS DAO is very likely to become profitable for the DAO as the previous 50-50% revenue split went in the past. This is not an exact 50-50% split, but the upfront payment requested from the DAO for 5 promo cards that will be coming will likely be less than the profit of the DAO from sales.

There were some numbers mentioned in the conversation, which may be the exact numbers that will appear in the proposals or not. We will see.

On the DHF side, the proposal will be to help fund the Splinterlands company, specifically. Matt didn't give a lot of details, but between the lines I understood this is going to be a big amount, thus why he might be expecting resistance. Nobody likes to pay, as you could see the SPS DAO doesn't like to pay either.

Matt will be at Hivefest in Croatia in September. I wonder if he'll create the proposals before of after that event. My guess is it will be after, so he will have the chance to talk face to face and present the facts to some big whales on Hive.

I ended my post about seeking recognition with "pay, if it's worth it". I guess we will soon find out some things about the relationship between Splinterlands and Hive. Maybe some priorities will be temporarily shifted. Maybe not. The amount matters a lot, too.

Interesting times coming up for both Hive and Splinterlands. Probably one of the most important HiveFests for a while.

I believe so too!

Nice one brother. I'm excited to see how these proposals will shape the future of Splinterlands and Hive's ecosystem.

This is an interesting development. My personal opinion is that the team should pay for the development of the validator nodes until it is released. Only after that should the DAO step in to pay for the maintenance and other fees/improvements. I compare it to condos and the owner's association. The construction company only step back and the owner association step in when everything is fully built and functioning. So things progressing like this really shows how bad the company's finances are right now.

A month or so ago Matt said they only have money for about 6-7 months, if nothing comes in.

I haven't been following it but it does sound like the entire SPS DAO is going to be more important. I think that it's good that we can control how the funds will be used but I don't know if cutting off features is a good or bad thing.

Yeah, probably the best road forward given the circumstances, unless a better solution is seen, is for the DAO to take on those 2 devs who work on the node validators.

Very interesting. I hope it will help the game to survive long term. Wish I could make it to HiveFest, but it's much farther than I'm willing to travel these days...

It's a start, and hopefully, from here onward Splinterlands will catch some speed.

I have not been very happy about the way DHF has been funding (more specifically not funding) projects that can bring genuine value to HIVE. Most of the popular blockchains with many DAPPs (and worse technology) are spending 7 -8 figures per year to fund DAPPs while DHF is acting stingy. This does not give me a lot of confidence and I have stopped buying more HIVE for some time. I keep the posting + curation rewards; but nothing more.

The SPS.DAO has the same attitude, in general, when they have to fund anything. Must be something in the air.

I do see a difference. Neither DHF nor SPS.DAO can call a bunch of VCs to drop a few hundred million more, because they are running low on funds. But that doesn't explain either irrationally spending or irrationally clinging on to the funds in the DAOs. They need to go where they are mostly needed and we should be careful and find ways to keep the funding level in the DAOs at decent levels at any time.

Saving doesn't make millionaires and billionaires; investing does. What the DAO should be looking at is ROI. If they can get $1.10 for each $1 spent in a 1 year long project, the only reason to not spend the money is funding a project that can make more than 10% APR. This is a simple example and real life tend to be more complicated. The main point is that saving is merely asking to get REKT by inflation.

I agree, those funds need to work to produce more funds. Investing in the game seems like a logical choice, since so far it has been very profitable for the DAO.
