Testing Splinterlands new Rental System (PeakMonsters interface) #2: From 1900 to Champion league with 668 DEC spent on rentals (+ win rates)
On the first day, I reached Gold league (around 1900 rating points) with only 84 DEC spent on rentals. I documented it here. Next step was to reach Diamond league on the second day and then Champion league on the last day, but I decided to try to reach Champion on the second day. So whole test took only 2 days (2 x 1-day rental contracts). As a reminder - I played account @sm-skynet.
On the first day, I rented very few cards, but I knew that this time I need a lot of POWER (500k) so I will need to rent a lot of cards, to meet POWER requirement. So decided a different approach this time and rent a lot of cheap cards instead of just a couple of powerful cards. Also I wanted to avoid renting just for POWER.
I wanted to rent at least 1 summoner for each splinter. I chose either the cheapest one (Qid Yuff, Vera Selacia, Contess L'ament, Mother Khala, Wizard of Eastwood) or strong summoner if it was rather cheap anyway (alpha Selenia Sky for 38 DEC daily and Delwyn Dragonscale). Selenia Sky was slightly more expensive than other dragon summoners like Daria Dragonscale / Camila Sungazer etc but it's a stronger summoner). Although Quid Yuff and Vera Selacia are the weakest summoners for Fire and Water splinter, they were so cheap (below 4 DEC daily) that I decided to rent them.
Next step was to try to rent as many cheap cards as possible. Of course I rented only those that ... I thought won't be useless.
Common monsters:
Some of them were really cheap...
5 minutes later I realized I didn't really rent these 2 DEC cards because someone else was faster haha!
Rare monsters:
As a reminder, to find the best deals just use Low Price (Level) sortable column. And set Level field to the level you want.
Epic and Legendary monsters:
Grenadier was a great deal. I rented only two legendaries because everything else was too expensive. And these 2 turned out to be really useful.
I started playing but after a couple of battles,, I realized that I don't have enough cards to win battles. And what is more important there was no strong splinter. I decided to focus on Earth splinter and rent more important cards.
Failed Summoner, Khmer Princess, Child of Forest, Screeching Vulture, Brownie are really, really strong Earth cards. And except Khmer Princess, there were rather cheap. Sometimes renting Gold Foil is cheaper than renting Regular Foil (Khmer Princess, Child of the Forest).
And of course I had to rent the most important cards too:
Tip of the day
If you want to rent a lot of cards at once, you should be fast. Or rent in batches. Other people are renting too! Otherwise instead of cards you will get this error:
Earth splinter was already quite strong, but I decided to make Fire splinter a bit stronger too. And I rented these Untamed cards:
And these Reward cards:
Sometimes you want to rent maxed level (or a specific level) to get all important abilities (Khmer Princess). But sometimes low level is enough anyway.
It took 147 battles total to reach 3700+ points. But I had not enough power to advance to champion league. Only 325k POWER, so I was short of 175k POWER. As I wasn't going to play more I decided to rent cards with the best POWER/cost ratio. (yeah, I tried to avoid it at first, but at this point, it didn't make sense to rent more useful but more expensive cards).
I rented 18 Gold Foil epic untamed cards (180k POWER).
A lot of golds!
I got 505k POWER, so enough to advance to Champion league.
How much DEC have I earned?
First day
- spent: 84.724 DEC
- earned: 203.181 DEC
- balance: 118.457
Second day
- spent: 668.838 DEC
- earned: 1269.279 DEC
- balance: 600.441 DEC
It's 118.457 DEC + 600.441 DEC = 718.898 DEC, so not only rewards from ranked battles covered rental fees, but there is a small profit too. Let's not forget that there will be also season rewards and I got a lot of potions from quest loot boxes.
And from the beginning, I just wanted to reach Champion and only break even! The main goal was to test the new rental system.

Wizard of Eastwood, Selenia Sky and Delwyn Dragonscale were the summoners that I tried to use whenever possible. And looks like it worked, because results are really good. If Earth and Dragon splinters were not available I had to use other sumomner (with weaker monsters). What is interesting, although Fire splinter was quite strong, I didn't play it too often because Earth was stronger anyway and Qid Yuff summoner is the worst Fire summoner in my opinion.

Screeching Vulture, Grenadier, Gelatinous Cube, Khmer Princess, Unicorn Mustang, Failed Summoner are really strong and useful. That's why I tried to rent them, even if I had to pay a quite high rental fee (Khmer Princess).
What is interesting, I didn't really need half of the cards (used only once or never). So actually I could have reduced rental costs. I think a more effective strategy would be to not rent all these cheap cards at the beginning, but focus on really useful ones for 1-2 splinters (Khmer Princess, Failed Summoner, Screeching Vulture etc) and then to rent cards with the best POWER/cost ratio.
But wait, remember when I said that Furious Chicken and Creeping Ooze are the most important monsters? I was not joking!

Yeah... Llama and Kron all day. Or Zaku. That worked great in Bronze and Silver league.
It looks like renting is a really great strategy but remember:
- There are not enough cards on the rental market for everyone, so better hurry up
- I am an outlier
Sooooooo... Sell my 40K in assets and rent for $2 a few days each season. Works for me.
Well, it's a strategy for new players, that want to reach Gold / Diamond / Champion but don't have enough cards. So they can rent them.
Renting is also awesome if you have XXk collection, but you are missing some cards and you want them immediately, but buying will take some time (that's me!)
Great write up. Thanks for the analysis. I've only rented cards to other people so far but you got me thinking I should take the initiative and rent some cards to up my ranking. Maybe I can have my cards rented to other people break even with the cards I rent.
Sensational. Thanks for running the experiment, and for this excellent write-up.
Next time a new guy whines about pay to play, I can throw him 1000 DEC and challenge him to get to Champion league. If he can do it, then I'll know who to stake SPS on :)
Now that's an idea 😁
im trying this right now! im paying 10/20 usd per season to do this lol
Really nice, you did a good job. This 1 day rental is awesome :D
Awesome experiment. Almost makes me regret I own most of my cards 😂
But then again, it takes me a week to get from Diamond to Champ, with almost all cards 🤣
How I wish I would have just 1% of the skills you have 😉
Doing it on the last 1-2 days is easier! I don't think I would be able to make this experiment on the first days of the season, I mean it would take much more time and probably I would need more cards.
And if you own all / most of your cards, you sleep better. You don't have to worry that you don't have important cards and there are no available on the rental market haha!
That last part is true... if only I would know how to use them properly 🤣
found ya in splinterlands discord upvoted!
I'm gonna make sure I follow ya :)
Really helpful for new players or players with a small collection, I managed to get from Gold I to Diamond I thanks to your post! (took your most used cards as reference for my team comp)
Great!
Professional stuff! Makes me wonder that how come I am noob after playing this for nearly 2 years! 😂
Good afternoon, I really like your calculations, please tell me where can I see the statistics of my battles and the winrate of monsters in my battles?
