A Call to Arms: Tip of the Scales

A Call to Arms: Tip of the Scales

image.png

You helped the Gobson Family put paid to the Gobalanos. You gave Nomos hope and rallied the fey. You defended Thanaloria against the Redywyrm dragons. And you collapsed the caverns leading into Rage's lair, which has become his tomb. The tide has turned. Join the rebels as they set their sights on Mox City, where Mantaroth rallies the Chaos legionnaires for a final stand. It's time to end this. Liberty or death. Vonak!

image.png

With Rage trapped within his lair and the other red dragons fighting over conrol of Mount Redwyrm's flight, you returned to the kingdom of the high elves. No sooner had you caught your breath than Bera Dallin and her Dauntless arrived on tower griffins.

image.png

Seems the rebels have liberated nearly every sovereign splinter of Praetoria. The last holdout is the Mox Confederation, where Mantaroth stands at the head of the army of the Tokatag Kalamenty in Mox City.

image.png

To defeat them, Bera Dallin plans to assault the Golden Arena, which the Chaos Empire has converted into an arms depot. But the Dauntless can't do it alone. They'll need your mage wagons and your help to take it.

image.png

Seize the Golden Arena and take the legions' weapons and armor to Elias Max Pruitt and his Mox City rebels. Help them defeat Mantaroth and the Tokatag army. Slay Silus of the Rift, and the dark god Uul will lose its hold. The legions will crumble. You'll be hailed a hero, and it's all happily ever after.

image.png

But something lurks beneath Praetoria, in the caverns of the lower Deep. Something indescribably huge with an insatiable appetite.

That something is your next legendary sumoner.

image.png

Nidhoggr

image.png

Since before the reach of memory or history, the immense dragon known as Nidhoggr has slumbered beneath Praetoria, buried in the nethermost reaches of the Deep.

But when the legions of Chaos tore open rifts in the boundaries that separated the Splinterlands from the other realms of existence, Nidhoggr stirred. For he is a guardian dragon and custodian of these ley lines.

He rose from the chasm in which he'd buried himself, shook off a mountain of rock and debris, and enlisted the denizens of the Deep to travel to the surface and observe. Soon, he learned of the Chaos Empire's trespass. He learned of the Splinterlanders failure to stop them.

And he found them both guilty.

Praetoria trembles as Nidhoggr stretches his wings and tears at the earth with claws and teeth. Soon, he will rise, both vengeful and ravenous.

image.png

image.png

Nidhoggr is the Rebellion set's Dragon legendary Tactics summoner. He's got teamwide -1 armor and -1 health debuffs, as well as a teamwide debilitation.

Force Reduction
Reduces maximum team size by 1.

Ouch. That hurts. But do the Tactics make up for it? Survey says... you bet.

On the left side, you can give Blast and Deathblow to 3 units, making Nidhoggr nearly on par with a certain Untamed summoner. Only in this case, we're talking about a Dragon summoner, so you can slap those Blasts and Deathblows on just about any element your heart desires.

And the right side is enough to curl your toes as well: +2 Speed and Execute to 3 units. These abilities pair great with Charge, high damage, and dual-attack units, while the Tactic makes your speedy units even speedier and nigh impossible to hit!

What do you think? Which Tactic do you prefer, and how do you imagine using it to gain the upperhand in the arena?

image.png

By the Numbers

Like the previous Conflicts, 4,000 copies of Nidhoggr will be airdropped to participating players based on their total Reward Chances when the Conflict ends. But this go-round, it will take 425 Reward Chances to guarantee a copy of the card.

this is broken card for 10 mana but
Death Blow and blast seem to contradict each other (if death blow is active there r no other cards so blast is useless)
but even individually they are quite broken

Instead of "Contradict" I would say Deathblow "Complements" Blast.

Once you've blasted the opposing team down to one member- your team gets Deathblow to finish them off, since Blast is no longer useful.

that is one way to look at it but it still contradicts right, if one ability is active the other is not
Complementing would be something like - Void and silence or amplify and thorn.

Yes, that is another version of 'complementing' abilities.
Contradictory would be something like Heal/Affliction or Immunity/Poison. Blast! and Deathblow don't actually work against each other it's more....
IF target has neighbors- do 1/2 damage to them too
If not, do 2x damage to the target

In boxing, I wouldn't say rights and lefts contradict each other just that you don't use both at the same time.

Affliction cannot be used on an allay, that won't be considered

this card is too overpowered. i mean at least with yodin, it's just the fire splinter. now you have blast + deathblow with every splinter when dragon summoner is allowed.

So, just to be clear... the -1 Health and -1 Armor affects your team right? Not the enemy team?

Nah, it should be the enemy team only.

I mean... I think it does affect our own team and not the enemy...

No, no- 'debuffs' only affect the opposing team. (unless otherwise stated) Like, Thaddius Brood- the -1 Magic Attack and -1 Health only affect the opposing team.
The -1 Armor (and Health) really help out the "Blast" havers o your team- taking away that pesky armor that might soak some of your Blast damage otherwise.

It affects your team only. Otherwise, the sentence below doesn't make sense.

"Ouch. That hurts. But do the Tactics make up for it? Survey says... you bet."

If it affects the enemy team only, why does the Tactics had to "make up for it"

There's also no rules about if it's negative negative, like Thaddius Brood, it is enemy team only. There just wasn't a summoner "yet" that would affect your team negatively because debilitations hasn't introduced yet so an ability negatively affecting your team didn't exist until now.

But it's just a theory until we see the card release.

You know? on 2nd (3rd? 12th?) read- it IS a little ambiguous. I may even be leaning toward your interpretation, TBH.

It all 'hinges' on the sentences before the one you quoted:
"...as well as a teamwide debilitation.
Force Reduction
Reduces maximum team size by 1.

Ouch. That hurts. But do the Tactics make up for it? Survey says... you bet."

That makes sense, as a -1 to team size hurts. Six becomes five, Five becomes four, etc. It's the phrasing of the start of that sentence "...teamwide -1 armor and -1 health debuffs..."

"Teamwide" does seem to indicate your team, not your opponent's but as you say: It's all theory until we see the card release or get some clarity from the team.

I don't work for the team anymore. I've been working for the DAO for almost 11 months now.

The card is viewable in game:

If anything, I think the debilitation needs more clarification:

Sorry to bother you about this then- I do appreciate that you were able to (mostly) clear up our confusion though.

I checked 'in game' as with your screenshot and it does say "All enemy Monsters have" -1 Armor/Health for the debuffs. So, it looks like- as far as anyone knows: the opposing team all gets -1 Armor/Health not your team.

Whether that holds when the card is released is, of course, anyone's guess.

It's fine, just don't want people misunderstanding the situation. I can't speak for them in any official capacity.

As far as the card, I suppose they could change it, but since they published the post and then loaded it onto the site today, my guess is this is it.

That's how I read it too... but you can see from the other response to my question that there might be confusion here.

I very much like how this card opens up a whole new way to play the game. Very creative and will add a lot more dimension as other cards now can be added with similar designs! Great job :)

Lol, is this the worst summoner ever? I am always looking forward to the last one in amy set but this time.. meh...

I'm liking these new Cards and how they use their Abilities in very interesting ways. Good to see the game kept fresh and tactical even after 6 years. We have an amazing game built on HIVE and it would be great to see some good marketing campaigns to make sure rest of the cryptosphere knows about us.

Impressive Nidhoggr abilities and statistic as summoner
Thank you for sharing

Nidhoggr looks insane. I had no idea how you all were going to pull off a Dragon summoner without dual elements, but going 10 mana with force reduction and those tactics was awesome. Both Blast/Deathblow and Execute/ +2 Speed can be used in so many rulesets. Can't wait to max this bad boy out and take him for a spin around Praetoria. Well done team!

the "Reduces maximum team size by 1." is reducing your or the enemys team?

For me it reads that your own team is reduced...
