Reward Cards Update

News is spreading like wildfire across Praetoria: the Order of the Scale, the engimatic organization that runs the Arena Games, is releasing a brand new set of reward cards to accompany the Rebellion set!

At the start of the season on Thursday, August 15th, you can use Glint to obtain these new soulbound cards from rarity draws and loot chests in your local Reward Shop.

Meanwhile, Chaos Legion soulbound reward cards will go out of print and no longer be available in the Reward Shop. Instead, you'll be able to UNBIND them. Cards that have been fully unbound may be purchased, sold, rented, traded, delegated, or even used as workers on land.

It's the end of an era but the beginning of an exciting new one. Read on for all the details so you're ready for it!

image.png

Rebellion Reward Cards

Rebellion's reward card expansion will be the same size as Chaos Legion's:

  • 12 common cards
  • 12 rare cards
  • 7 epic cards
  • 12 Legendary cards

On top of that, it comes with four new abilities sure to shake up the meta. Check 'em out.

Mimic
At the beginning of round 2 and each following round, gain a random ability from the enemy team. 25% chance to gain a random ability from an attacker when hit. Dispel removes one mimicked ability in the order they were gained. Debilitations, Targeting abilities, Ambush, Weapons Training, Flank, Reach, Charge, and Taunt cannot be mimicked.

Corrupted Healing
Each round, restore 70% of max health to allied units, rounded down. Each time a unit is healed, its max health is reduced by 1.

Execute
If the target has 2 or less health after a successful attack, perform another attack against the same unit.

Wingbreak
Always targets enemy units with Flying first regardless of abilities or rulesets. +2 damage if the target has Flying.

image.png

With the Rebellion reward cards, we're also introducing Debilitations, which damage or inflict negative status effects on allies instead of enemies. Cards with Debilitations generally have higher stats for their mana cost; you'll have decide if the drawback is worth the extra punch they pack.

We're releasing three Debilitations with the Rebellion reward cards.

Incendiary
Reapplies Burning at the beginning of each round. Burning has a 33% chance to spread to adjacent units at the beginning of each round, then all Burning units lose 2 health. Burning can be cleansed.

Electrified
Deals 1 damage to all allied units at the beginning of each round.

Weary
Each round, Weary units have a 10% chance to become Exhausted. This chance increases by 10% every round, up to a maximum of 80%. Exhausted units skip their turn and cannot Retaliate.

image.png

Initially, Rebellion reward cards will be soulbound (they can't be bought, sold, rented, traded, delegated, or used on land or in Conflicts), and they can only be found via rarity draws and loot chests in your local Reward Shop. But, like Chaos Legion's soulbound reward cards, you'll be able to unbind them when they go out of print.

image.png

Unbinding Reward Cards

When Rebellion's reward cards are released on August 15th, you'll be able to unbind your Chaos Legion soulbound reward cards. Once unbound, these cards can be bought, sold, rented, traded, delegated, and used on land.

For the first 29 days, it will cost 10 times a card's power-per-BCX in Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) to unbind it.

For example, for the first 29 days, a max-level regular-foil Drybone Raider will cost 55,000 DEC (11 BCX * 500 power * 10) to unbind.

Because the cost to unbind cards is based on power-per-BCX, you are not penalized when you unbind max-level cards, which receive a power bonus.

image.png

Additionally, it will not cost more to unbind cards combined over their maximum BCX. In other words, it will cost the same to unbind a regular-foil Drybone Raider with 11 BCX as one with 12 or more BCX.

Other examples:

  • A single BCX regular-foil common card will cost 50 DEC (1 BCX * 5 power * 10) to unbind.
  • A max-level regular-foil commmon card will cost 20,000 DEC (400 BCX * 5 power * 10) to unbind.
  • A single BCX gold-foil legendary card will cost 125,000 DEC (1 BCX * 12,500 power * 10) to unbind.
  • A max-level gold-foil legendary card will cost 500,000 DEC (4 BCX * 12,500 power * 10) to unbind.

Additionally, every 30 days, the price to unbind a card will increase by a multiple of one.

  • Day 1-29: 10 times the card's power in DEC
  • Day 30-59: 11 times the card's power in DEC
  • Day 60-89: 12 times the card's power in DEC
  • Day 90-119: 13 times the card's power in DEC
  • Day 120-149: 14 times the card's power in DEC
  • Day 150-179: 15 times the card's power in DEC

After 180 days, Chaos Legion reward cards will no longer be unbindable and will be permanently soulbound.

Rather than flooding the market with a deluge of cheap reward cards, these unbinding costs are comparable to the current market value of most Rebellion cards. We feel this pricing model is in the best interest of our players, as unbound reward cards will likely be scarce and highly valuable. This should prevent a drop in the floor price of cards and ensure players' collections retain their value.

Note that all DEC spent to unbind cards will be permanently burned and removed from the circulating supply.

image.png

Combining and Burning

If an unbound card is combined with a soulbound card, the new card will be soulbound. To unbind it, you'll need to pay the remainder of the unbinding fee. For example, if you combine 3 unbound BCX of a gold-foil legendary card with a soulbound BCX, the new card will be soulbound, and you'll need to pay 12,500 times the current multiplier in DEC to unbind it.

Soulbound cards are burned for Glint, while unbound cards are burned for DEC.

image.png

The Rebellion reward cards are an exciting new expansion that introduces whole new levels of strategy and depths of lore to the Splinterlands. We can't wait for you to get your hands on them. The artwork is beautiful, the lore builds on the core set and Conflicts, and (most importantly) it's gonna be awesome when you use 'em to lay the smack down on your fellow battle mages in the arena!

And with the ability to unbind Chaos Legion's soulbound reward cards, you'll not only be able to sell, rent, trade, and delegate your cards or put them to work on land, but you'll finally be able to get those elusive cards lady luck denied you!

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Support Team at https://support.splinterlands.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

Together, we rise. Vonak!

I need to hurry up and get wifi as I really want to earn these new cards. Sounds awesome.

I always love new cards and new abilities, and these seem like a lot of fun. I am very much looking forward to these!

Also on the unbinding, I am very happy to have the rules released, and whether people like it or not, they now know how soulbound cards will work.

I look forward to seeing the effects on both the gameplay and the economy!

I think the cost to unbound soulbound cards is too high, the 29 day limit and increasing cost will make it impossible to complete my set.

Yeah, the price is insane. Nobody will unlock cards at such a price.
Guess we are stuck with unmaxed cards then?

No, you buy what you miss and combine them👌 if you wnt to unbind you only pay for what is not unbound from before. Read again😉

Given the unlock cost, the profit from selling reward cards will be minimal. On the other hand, the cost of unlocked reward cards (to max our cards) will be at least the unlock cost which is quite expensive.

In summary, maxing reward cards without relying on glint shop will be prohibitively expensive and unreasonable for most players.

My heart tells me to keep playing, and I'm trying to rationalise why.

My brain tells me this is a busted flush and has been for some time now.

Each time I align my card purchasing/Land etc to the new enhancement, another change makes a mockery of my efforts.

The latest announcement has just re-enforced my doubts about the game

I've finally worked it out, I'm so invested in the game that I don't want to lose that investment, However, the money has already been lost and to keep playing is to throw more dosh and time down the pan.

Now the answer is simple, any aspect of the game that is not self-financing with the assets I already have will be shelved.

No more fresh investment in the game.

We've already paid for these cards by playing to earn them. The unbind price is absurd. Another ridiculous move 👍

And we have them. We earned them, and have them and can play with them and earn with them.

Lol OK. You also bought and own other cards that you can play and use to earn. Do you have to pay to unbind those ??

Instead of just paying DEC to unlock Soul Bound cards or making the cards permanently Soul Bound.

Why not have an optional mechanism where older cards from Wild / CL can be staked/put to work unchaining the Soul Bound cards for a set time?
The more BCX / CP staked per card the faster they unlock.
Even if implementation is after the 180-day DEC purchase window, it would be better than perma binding the cards for poorer players.
This way the Whales can pay DEC to unlock cards early and we mere mortals can also unlock our cards, but it will take longer.

Benefits
Cards from older sets will be locked up for a while, increasing the rarity of those older sets, like Land soaks up cards, pushing up the value of older sets.
Players who play in Modern have a use for older card sets as the Wild sets have more CP, which will unlock the cards faster.
The mechanism can be repeated when Rebellion Reward Cards are fully released, meaning the CL Reward cards can be staked to unlock the Rebellion Reward cards.
This way the CL Reward card unlocking is staggered.
Most of the coding was already created when Land 1.5 was written.
If implemented after the 180 days for DEC purchase, the Devs have 180 days to implement it.

Otherwise, the same message is being sent to new players - if you're not a whale, don't play! Because the Reward Cards will NEVER be tradable/rentable NFT's in this alleged Play to Earn game.

The game description tag on the Splinterlands Hive account is as follows:

'Splinterlands is a blockchain-based collectible card game. Collect digital assets, battle thousands of other players, and win crypto and other rewards!'

As the Chaos Legion Reward Cards are Soul Bound and will remain Soul Bound as I cannot afford the unlock cost, I did not win them and do not own them. I will never be able to sell them or rent them out.

Now I know, I will not win/own a single Rebellion Reward Card.

This game description is misleading.

I like this idea - I say this as someone who more than likely will not pay to unlock cards, but wouldn't mind staking some cards to break the "soulbound curse".

Expanding on this - there could be a requirement for summoners to be staked (uses for older/non meta summoners) and certain splinters of monsters (Fire requires Fire, etc). Could even go as far as "sacrificing" (burning) an older reward card that was overprinted to speed up the "unlock ritual".

The more I think about it there's tons of ways this could have been implemented that would involve different gameplay assets/lore instead of just...costing money.

There's also another problem with the unbinding of the CL cards. Next card rotation, CL cards are unusable in Modern Format. So, who will be buying these unbound CL reward cards? the ones being paywalled in Wild Format?

I wonder if they would implement a rule where they can pay for cards to be usable in Modern Format. Like Every single player cannot use Djinn Oshannus because of the rotation but you can because you unlocked yours to play it.

I like the idea. The problem is that team is financially strained and it will take more than copying some Land 1.5 code to develop this system. You could try making a DAO Proposal to see if you can get community support.

Hi Vimukthi,

Thanks for taking the time to read my comment.

I don't have the DEC to create a proposal.

Also, Whales control SL, and SL employs some mega Whales from what I can work out. So any proposal that will cost SL to implement will be voted down, especially if SL are strapped for cash.

The proposal system makes the minnows feel like they have a say, but the reality is that they don't.

If SL were interested, they would have read the comment, and be considering it.

I have proven to myself that SL staffers could unlock their Reward cards and profit from these changes, so why would they vote to disadvantage themselves?

As some commenters have pointed out, enticing desperately needed fresh players to this game seems low on SL's agenda.

Those who can afford to unlock the Reward cards (SL-employed mega Whales included) will have the opportunity to unlock the abundant locked NFT's and transform them into scarce unlocked NFT's, which, in the future could become very valuable. All at the expense of the wider player base.

Whether it is ethical for SL-employees to unlock these cards when they work for the company that issues them and when it is at the expense of a large number of customers', is up for debate.
Some government agencies would see DEC and SPS as commodities and maybe the NFT's. Considering the value involved (Billions of $US), this could leave SL open to investigation.

For example, in some countries, employees entering public lotteries created by their employer is illegal.
After all, the SL locked Reward NFT's were originally won and randomly revealed by opening a Chest (before the introduction of Glint). So, it could be considered a form of gambling.

Strangely, the player base has moved on already and accepted this. The comments here have dried up, and on Discord, have moved on to other subjects.

People are now talking about the new cards & abilities and strategising.

Clever move, bundling good news with bad and sticking the good news at the front. Right out of a politician's handbook, lol.

Is this yesterday's news already?

Try gaining support on Discord. With enough support you will be able to have a community funded Proposal. 100,000 DEC is a significant amount for many of us. One of the biggest problems with governance is that there isn't enough participation. That is why the Whales have a great deal of power. Only 20% -25% staked SPS votes for Proposals.

Hi Vimukthi,

I thought SPS proposals were SPS DAO specific and not for game content / NFT changes.

After my conversation with MattClarke (potentially an SL Discord Mod/involved in SL Treasury) on this Hive post I am seriously considering whether Splinterlands is a pyramid scheme. With Mega Whale SL Employees at the top of the pyramid and the Whales just below them. At the bottom of the pyramid are the people being milked to line the pockets at the top.

SL Leadership were also involved in the creation of Golem Overlord (GO). My first experience with GO Discord Mods was being accused of spamming a channel for submitting two posts hours apart. I now have further doubts about this game.

SL is not worth my time, my SPS holding dropped $10 to $100 in 24 hours as far as I saw at a glance.

Worse than this the SL Leadership are also heavily involved in Hive.

I have already made considerable progress with WAX, this is where my future lies.

Crypto is about money, if you don't trust someone with your money, it's time to move on.

Thanks for the comment.

I agree with your sentiments.

They are stopping vouchers for paying for Wild, so the price just went up as you now have to pay in DEC.

I'm guessing ArchAngle wants me to throw 100K DEC at raising a vote to the SPS DAO, if they were that interested, they would discuss and implement it.

I will be lucky if I can throw together 5k and that is staked on land.

The Whales would vote it down I suspect anyway and several of them are affiliated to SL in some way.

It's all starting to look and feel like a pyramid scheme, the ones at the top with all the control and bleeding out the base.

Since 2021 I've climbed from 15K CP to almost 600K.

The paying to unstake rewards and the hike in the fee to play in Wild are the last straw for me, time to get out.

Good luck!

I don’t understand why the unbound cost was set to match the rebellion set. If it had been matched with the Chaos Legion set, that would have made a lot more sense! Chaos and rebellion is like Volvo vs Porche... in terms of price..

Terrible decision on the 10x cost to unlock. Many people are against that and only a handful of whales support it. At a much lower cost there would be much more DEC burned.

I'm still excited about the new cards though.

So, apart from an insane unbound price, the price actually INCREASES as time goes by? And to top it up, permanent sb after 180 days? Honestly... it just seems a bad joke. Having cards impossible to get by any newcomer to the game will always be a big no for me, and that's effectively what you'll accomplish FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS GAME in 180 days. For what's being taunted as focus on a New Player Experience, this seems the opposite direction. As for the Current Player Experience, and suspecting the vast majority of your player base won't have the funds/will to finish some of the cards lady luck hasn't provided during all this time, I'll let you decide how does it feel. I'm really trying to stay optimistic and supportive, but all these decisions are not really helping.

Will Splinterlands staffers privy to this announcement be barred from unlocking their CL Reward Cards?

This would protect Splinterlands staff from suspicion of insider trading, market manipulation or profiteering.

0

We're all privy to this announcement; and since nobody had a chance to act on it before now, there's been no opportunity for insider trading.

(Edited)

This announcement will inflate the value of unlocked Chaos Legion Reward cards by allowing a restricted few with large deposits of DEC to capitalise on this announcement.

If Splinterlands staff are allowed to Unlock Chaos Legion Reward Cards, and benefit financially from this decision themselves, to the disadvantage of other players who cannot afford to unlock the cards, then the decision to do this could be seen as an unfair advantage, allowing personal gain.

If everyone were allowed to unlock Reward Cards eventually, it would be more of a level playing field and this would not be a concern.

If Splinterlands staff were barred from unlocking their Reward Cards, then they would not be able to profit from this decision and again, it would not be a concern.

There is a conflict of interest where someone is in a position to make these decisions and is allowed to gain financially.

As a modest holder of staked SPS, I have a financial investment in Splinterlands and have been disadvantaged by this decision as I cannot afford to unlock my reward cards. Worst of all, after 180 days I will be barred from ever being able to unlock these reward cards.

0

Conflict of interest is a different concept than insider trading.
Having lots of dry powder isn't insider trading. If there was an old ability that synchronised really well with the new abilities, and that old ability was rare; and a staff member bought up a heap of the copies of the cards with the old ability before the new ones are announced, that would be insider trading.
They'd be misusing the knowledge of upcoming changes to benefit themselves at the expense of the people who didn't have that knowledge.

Employees of Splinterlands have created a set of rules and coded the game to implement this change to the game ecosystem.

If this directly benefits employees at the expense of other investors in the game ecosystem then there is something wrong.

A bit like playing Monopoly with friends and making up the rules as you go along to make sure you win the game. Oddly the next time you want to play your friends decline.

We can dance around the financial terminology, it doesn't change what will be implemented, and the possibility that Splinterlands staff could benefit financially from the decisions they have made that directly affect the game economy.

All I have asked for is an assurance that these staff will not abuse their position for personal financial gain.

Having looked at the @MattClarke account, I would place it in the Whale category.

Congratulations! Enjoy your unlocked Reward Cards, Splinterlands Moderator Matt"TwoCastles"Clarke on Discord?

Hmmm, @Matt"TwoCastles"Clarke has also posted in the Discord Splinterlands Server SPS-Treasurers channel.

I'd love to go on some rant about how no one in their right mind is going to pay even 10x to unlock these cards, but I guess let's sit back and watch and see how it goes. I feel like you're driving nails into the coffin and making it unappealing to have anything to do with this game. I think there's no chance at all you'll get new players interested in this game the way it is now. But maybe I'll be proven wrong. Whatever the vision is, I will admit that I don't understand it. I hope I'm just missing something and a year from now I'll be eating these words.

well the developers have long since resigned themselves to the fact that there are no more new players, just look at all the changes in the last year, almost every time the npe was even worsened or a paywall was introduced or increased. here it's all about exploiting the remaining ones to the maximum until the plug is pulled!

Yeah, I just don't understand anything they do. I hope it's just me. Maybe it'll all make sense one day, but I'm not sure. Making it so that any level of card can be played at any level has been lauded as a great change for NPE, but I truly don't understand that. It just makes it so new people get wrekt even harder when they first start out.

Nice 49,962,795 Card Power @michealb, not surprised you like the idea of burning DEC to unlock Chaos Legion Reward Cards.

@michealb is also mentioned a lot on the Discord Splinterlands Server SPS-Treasurers channel?

If I had large amounts of SL assets and could unlock my Reward cards I'd be rubbing my hands too.

Once the Discord Trader-Chat Channel starts its workout after Aug 15th I'd be able to flog a load of unbound cards and make a mint!

But then I'm not in the SPS Treasurers Channel and will have to settle for soul-bound cards.

I wonder why this game is widely viewed as a Whale game?

No, really, you guys think we are stupid or born yesterday?

I know people with a tenth of your public assets that works with up to 6 alt accounts to spread the noise, but somehow all top 20 whales in the game never sell any asset, only buy more, meanwhile DEC, SPS and cards are cratering... No one can figure why!

Apparently, according to another Moderator on SL Discord chat, the whales asked for DEC burn, with a subsequent comment that the Whales were pushing for x20.

SL very kindly announced x10, you know - to help the minnows, x20 seemed a little out of the minnows price range.

So if the Whales asked for DEC Burn x20 (before the announcement, as they are reported to have pushed for it) and several of the Whales appear to be employees, could this be construed as Insider Trading enabling the Frontrunning of DEC before the announcement?

This is an interesting article ...

Insider Trading

Ex-OpenSea Exec Convicted of Wire Fraud, Money Laundering in Insider Trading Case
**** ******** made approximately $50,000 by buying and trading non-fungible tokens with insider knowledge gained from his position at OpenSea.

Source: https://www.coindesk.com/tag/insider-trading/

This is another interesting article ...

Amid Cryptocurrency Surge, Frontrunning Continues To Be Major Menace

"I like to compare front running to insider trading in financial markets. In frontrunning, traders make use of non-public information like pending transactions to maximise profits before a transaction can be confirmed," explains Aliasgar Merchant, Developer Relations Engineer, Tendermint.

If we substitute pending transactions with pending announcements.

The Financial Market or Security would be DEC.

Frontrunning, simply put, is trading of cryptocurrencies based on publicly unavailable information about a future transaction.

Source: https://www.ndtvprofit.com/business/amid-cryptocurrency-surge-frontrunning-continues-to-be-major-menace-as-it-causes-a-loss-of-280-million-each-month-2579130

So how could this insider knowledge be abused?

Knowing in advance that other players will receive an announcement that could cause them to buy large quantities of DEC, will be required to unlock millions of NFT's.
An Insider Trader could purchase large quantities of DEC at a low pre-announcement price.

Once the announcement is made, players will start buying DEC in preparation for the go-live date on 15/08.

During this time any Insider Trader could sell DEC at a higher price and make a good profit, remember there are no trading fees on Hive Engine.

Alternatively, if they wait until after go live, DEC will be burned (as asked for by the Whales), decreasing the total available supply of DEC, and increasing its market value further.

The DEC purchased and any previously owned DEC could be sold at a profit.

Once demand subsides and the DEC market cools, the DEC price settles at a lower value, allowing any potential Insider Trader to buy back DEC at a lower price, inflating their DEC balance.

At this point, any Insider Trader could then use the DEC profit to unlock their cards using the profit gained from DEC market fluctuation.

This could give them a large market share of now scarce unlocked NFT Reward cards, at almost no 'real' cost, giving them a considerable financial advantage over SL's customer base.

Quick comment regarding this and I hope the devs notice this before release.

I think there's a need to change the wording of "allied units" and be more specific. In Triage, it's "friendly back-line Unit that has taken the most damage", in Tank Heal, it's "to the Unit in the first position"

So, since the wording is just "allied units", are these random?

There's also a problem with "incendiary" ability. Cleanse only works on the monsters on the 1st position. That means if the Incendiary "spread" on the 2nd position, and so on, the that ability cannot be permanently removed in the team because only the 1st monster can be affected with Cleanse.

This 10x unlock cost on a 29-day window is just completely ridiculous and nearly everyone seems to agree on it.

How is this helping the game forward and new players to come in? Most players won't be able to own them since they are way too expensive on a short time window losing more connection with the game. There will also be a big gap between old players who own these Locked Cards Soulbound and can earn forever with only them since they include Summoners (which was a huge mistake). It makes no sense for any new player to pay more than 10x the DEC cost for these cards to play in Wild (which isn't far off).

There is a massive card oversupply and no new or existing player will come in buying packs knowing they will get destroyed on the value once the cards get dumped into Wild. This unlocking was the perfect opportunity to actually burn some cards putting a requirement to burn a similar type card to unlock. The game also needs to give cards bought with money some advantage over cards earned by playing the game.

I would like to own the Soulbound cards unlocked for real just for the sake of it but this way I will never get to it as it's just not worth it. Each new proposal and change pushes me more and more away from Splintlerland.

Agreed. A new player that spent $20 on starter and some commons and has been grinding for months and months and now has a level 4 or 5 reward rare now needs to pay $50 USD in DEC to "finally" own it 🤡
So much for the "In this game you own the assets" ... Anyway. One more nail.

I have been perma banned from the discord, with no warning or previous time outs etc, because of my critical statements regarding decisions such as this one. So I guess I'll post here instead!

This is yet another decision that will bring in zero new players, but will convince a small number of existing players to quit the game. As evidenced by the comments below.

Good work team! Keep silencing all that disapprove until the echo chamber is airtight.

Wow, banned from Discord, maybe I'll be next.

When I asked what I consider a reasonable question, the response was an unflattering MEME.

They are not interested in debate.

Should Tavern be renamed to Echo Chamber?

yep, they don't like hearing the reality. Terrible state of the game, players leaving in hordes, ATLs in a bull run, everything going down for years, team and dao making almost exclusively terrible decisions. Try to highlight these facts in hope things improve and you'll eventually just get banned and labeled as spreading FUD, harassing, or whatever justification they so choose.

Good luck brother

After 180 days, Chaos Legion reward cards will no longer be unbindable and will be permanently soulbound.

Are you kidding? So they'll be soulbound for eternity, if not unbound within half a year? After the play-pass for wild this is the second ransom attack on us players. Unbelievable what Splinterlands has become.

I used to love playing, but there are jerks running Splinterlands at the moment. After the first ransom attack in Wild that I can only play if I pay a ransom, now the second ransom attack: I can only trade my earned Soulbound cards if I buy them back. And if I don't buy them back immediately, they're soulbound forever. That's just what game manufacturers did 50 years ago. That's not how I bet when soulbound cards started. There is a lack of people who understand markets. There is no shortage of people who manipulate and destroy their own achievements.

PS: Well, anyway, I just see I wrote exactly this above. Now here's a summary again. While I'm patient. Even Magic the Gathering had their lessons back in the 90ies and found back into business.

This sounds like pushing rebellion cards into users' collection.

This is totally wrong. No card should be permanently soulbound and the costs to unlock are crazy.

I'm noy paying that to unlock what is meant to be a reward card. It's more expensive than buying pack cards.

Added to that another new set of cards and abilities that are totally unnecessary and i'm starting to think about my future in the game. After 7 years and thousands of dollars i am getting more and more worried about the direction that the team is going in.

It's sad to see but this post has really saddened me after wanting to see the team getting funded i'm not sure that i do anymore as they are killing off the game.

I had the same feelings.
I used to have a lot of fun when playing this simple game.
But it became more and more complicated, #pay2earn instead of #play2earn
While they kept talking about attracting new users, look at what they did, it's reserved for what they said

I wrote I really long and spirited reply. It was too wordy, so I'll sum up my thoughts:

"This is fucking stupid".

The number one question I have is are there going to be summoners in the new reward cards. If there are, then in the future the game is worth grinding to get those maxxed out. I only played for maybe 4 months in the last round of soulbound cards and feel like it was a waste now, since I will never get them maxxed out now unless I want to pay a lot to do it.

If you guys implement these changes then kindly change the name of the Reward card to something else.

"... players' collections retain their value" that is to say that rewards cards will remain at no monetary value as they are now. The cost to unlock them is at (more likely higher) than the real market value meaning there is no near-term benefit to unlocking. Moreover, there will be very little incentive to buy & hold these cards compared to low-priced normal CL and especially given the limited remaining live in Modern.

So is this supposed to bring the price of SPS up a little bit or did we just say fuck SPS, let's go invent a new token and call it Glint, that to go along with Vouchers, DEC... Seriously. WTF. We are what is left, nobody new is coming. Every single person I try to push this game on looks at me like I am the idiot. Maybe I am. Probably. I agree with everyone else about this. Did you ask ChatGPT about this? I bet he would tear you guys a new ass for this shit. And how come I can't get a fucking Gold Legendary EVER!!!!!! I mean seriously. I don't remember voting on this shit either. Hey who wants to play monopoly? Get at me.

I love the reward cards but something has to give here…

  1. We stake sps to get glint and sps rewards.. ok fair.

  2. We pay for a battle pass in wild to stop bots extracting ok… It has a benefit but how does this stop whales with millions of sps and multiple alt accounts extracting more value than the wild pass?

  3. We pay for reward cards with glint. Makes sense…

  4. We have to unlock rewards cards using dec 10x-15x? And we only get a short time period… In one year all these changes and no heads up about stacking dec to be able to afford this. Next time I can understand because now we all know… but sheesh cmon. Too much too soon. What’s to say the goal posts won’t shift again. We need to be informed earlier!!!! Please….

I see all the benefits… but sps staking, wild pass, buying energy, up to 15x unlock. It is overkill. You could have at least give us 180 days at 10x… that is somewhat fairer.

Anyway hope it works 🤞

Enjoy the game!

Those unlock fees are crazy. Also, why the time limit? Maybe after 180 days then the unlock fees can be really high but I don't think they should be locked forever...

These are reward cards, they shouldn't cost the same as Rebellion pack cards. Sad now that I will never get to complete my set at those prices.

Yeah, I'm with everyone here. I just don't see how the crazy high cost to unlock somehow helps the game, I do not think it's gonna attract the level of DEC burn their hoping for. We'll see, I wouldn't claim to have the greatest understanding of the economics, I just know playing at very low cost bc I enjoy the game, and don't have the disposable income to drop on it, this past year has been fun but frustrating. Feel like I get torched by bots or players that got in earlier and no amount of skill or strategy makes up for killer cards. Oh well, good luck everybody! Gameplay is still fun I guess, and I was super against the loss of reward chests but came around on the glint thing, maybe this'll be ok.

To attract new players, cards need to retain their value. No one would put money into the game only to see their money get destroyed. I think we should look at reducing the card supply first, then trying to attract new players.

I am finally going to sale my account, I was going to stick with it but now this is ridiculous we already have to buy or rent sps to get the rewards which is a good idea but now to unbind the cards we get we have to pay for it, no wonder everyone is leaving and no new players are entering the game it's because of all this crap, I thought we were supposed to actually own our rewards that we get and unbinding was supposed to be free after the new set came out from what I remember. They say it is, so the market doesn't get flooded, but the market has nothing to do with them they already charge to sale cards. They are making it cost way too much for new players to come in and be excited about the game.

I don't know what the logic is of paying 10x to unlock a card that is ours and was earned by playing the game.

A gold legendary card will cost 125,000 Dec (76 dollars at the current price)

I'm going to spend 76 dollars to unlock a card that's mine?

Will anyone be willing to pay more than 76 dollars for the card when there are so many better and cheaper cards on the market?

Will I sell the card for 50 dollars?
30 dollars?
Or will I never be able to sell it?

That's making fun of active splinterlands players

The game was interesting for a long time and it was fun to play the game for the game's sake

With each new update the game loses interest and market value, and I'm sorry about that because I've dedicated myself to this game for years, at present it's a waste of time and of no interest whatsoever.

Play to earn has become pay to lose

Active players are disappearing and they want to exploit active players since they can't attract new ones.

Once upon a time Splinterlands, from the top to the bottom, did that

The mere possibility that cards (i.e., NFTs) in possession of a player might become forever locked is a terrible decision. The main motivation to play the game these last few years was to build a nice collection of reward cards, max them out for gameplay, and then have some extra for selling later. Now most of us, the few players that remain, will be forced to accept the fact that all those cards will never be truly ours, and we won't be able to sell the extras cards we've got.

This decision will lead to the death of the game, sooner or later. Why would anyone bother to play, if the only cards that can be earnt will never be truly yours? If there's no point in playing, one might as well sell all his cards and try to recoup from his losses elsewhere.

Assets locked forever is utterly incompatible with Web3 gaming. We hope the team will come to their senses and reverse course on this destructive decision.

Big disappointment by you guys there is no way an average Joe will be able to unbound these cards and get a full set or max copies of 90% of the cards. With everyday you make it harder for normal folks to stick with this project and most definitely new players will be overwhelmed.

I just want to sell all my soulbound cards and be done with the game but it's just too pricy to unbind them. But to pay more than $250 to unbound gold legendary BCX 3 is just crazy. I can't even sell it for $250.

If only I could convert it to DEC even if it's 50%...

500.000 DEC, and there are not even bids. Considering the price trajectory of my other (bought) cards, that's an easy pass.

"After 180 days, Chaos Legion reward cards will no longer be unbindable and will be permanently soulbound" - Splinterlands, that's a really nice FU to what's left of your player base, way to go.

I found this card linking system unfair. I spent a few months without accessing the game and when I returned, unlinking some of my cards was costing more than 300,000 DEC. Now I have unusable cards, considering that I have others of the same type with a higher level, and there is nothing to be done. I can't rent them, I can't sell them. What is the logic of an NFT game if we can't manipulate our items in the way we see fit? Obviously, this strategy only benefits the game's whales. We, players with few resources, will not be able to pay this increasing fee. Because of this, we will stagnate because we don't have enough resources to rent or buy other cards on the market.
Free up these linked cards for rent. It doesn't make sense to keep using useless resources. Don't deprive small players, we need a competitive game, not a pay-to-win game.
