Good Bye Frustration?

avatar

After the second season in a row when I wasn't able to reach Champion League although I was in Diamond 1 with 4 or 5 days before the season end, I decided time can be better used in a different way.

Just look at this graph with my rating over the last 40 battles:

image.png

Seemed like there was an invisible barrier around the 3500 rating and above. It was even harder at the EOS rush, but that was during the last day, maybe two.

After testing a playing bot last season on a bronze account and liking the results, I decided it is time to bot my main playing account too. I may still play from time to time, but normally, it'll do the heavy lifting. And I'll see the results at the end of the season.

The bot may not reach as high as I normally would, probably not even Diamond 1, but if it reaches Diamond 2, and I have back my time and eliminate a source of frustration, I'll settle with that. What I don't like is that the bot is advertised with very high fees (currently no fee is applied, but it isn't cheap at all to get a token for it). But when the fees start, it may become a very inefficient use of my cards.

I'd certainly prefer to avoid the unnecessary frustration that I associate with playing the game lately.

And I am not the only one resorting to this kind of measure from what I've seen.

I guess, long "live" the bots? They don't get tired, frustrated, or excited.

P.S.: The bot just played its first game on my main playing account. A win. It used a card I don't remember using, ever. Or if I did, it was once or twice. And another card I rarely use. Who knows, maybe I'll learn something from it too? :) With so many cards in my collection, I tend to develop a bias on the cards I use regularly, as I'm sure many of us do.

Sounds like the bot has great strategy and you might learn something from it.

I don't know about that. It just probably goes through all my cards and makes decisions based on how suitable they are for the strategy it selects. We humans can't go through our entire collection (if it's big) and analyze every card, but we can take surprising strategies and decisions and innovate, which a bot (of this type) can't do.

Hey!
What bot do you use?

Archmage. But I might try the other one too, on another account, for comparison, and because the fees are lower.

So far it's within 'parameters'. And as I would have done, within the first day or two. Losing more than winning.

I agree with the frustration, especially when we fall onto the losing streak and deviate further away from goal.

Well, that's when the frustration comes, otherwise what reason would we have to be frustrated? :) And the bad thing is I tend to perseverate sometimes when I'm frustrated, making it even worse.

same here! i will not believe i am not losing streak and keep going, and that's when we totally fall out of place

Splinterlands is definitely more frustrating and it's even tougher now with more cards added to the mix. So I don't blame you trying to bot away the concerns. Sometimes, I wonder if I should try doing so as well because I don't have as much time.

The thing is... I will probably still play. For pleasure. Without an objective. I might even play better this way. I just transfer the grind to the bot.

I don't play Splinterlands, but I do invest in cards and rent them out.
I may need to take a closer look at the BOT playing for me and see if it is a better return.

Thanks for the information, Adrian.
I appreciate it.

It probably varies. But if you don't have a competitive deck for any league, but just single cards purchased for the purpose of renting them out, I advise you to keep renting them. It won't be profitable playing with a deck not optimized for playing, in most cases.

Will your bot rent any cards?

No. It uses the cards you have (access to - meaning including rented or delegated to you). If you don't have enough cards for it to use, it uses starter cards.

I totally get you. I also feel like there is no way I can manage to climb these last seasons. I just managed to reach Diamond I last season and it was with 50% RC and 1 hour before the end of the season... I will probably reduce the number of accounts I play with.

Let me know how it works out for you when you play with fewer accounts. I couldn't reach my objective when I played one account.
