Splinterlands - How to best earn & spend glint for new players?

glint1.jpg

Hey everyone and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, today I'll be making a new post for this weeks Community Engagement Challenge, I really like the theme for last weeks because it's all about helping new players and I've been doing this for the last two years already 😀

So, when you're a new player or even for experienced players, making blogs like this one and participating in the two Splinterlands challenges every week can earn upvotes (no guarantee though!) to earn something extra to invest in your account, this way, I'm slowly building my account for the last three years together with some personal money.

To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the splinterlands post here.
If you need help or advice to get you started with making your own blogs, just reply and I'll help you out!

So, starting from scratch here, this topic is about how to best earn and spend your glint, but...

What is glint!?

Glint is a soulbound (or account bound if you will) currency you can't sell but you can use to buy rewards with in Gwen's glint shop, every battle you win, you can earn some glint, how much is depending on the league you're playing in and how much SPS you have staked, more on that later, you can see your total rewards for the season on the right on your dashboard.

The amount of glint you earn in your battles is basically doubled, you get the amount displayed right away, seen under 'my glint balance' and at the end of every season you get the total amount earned in the entire season again, seen under 'season end loot'.

At the end of every battle you can see how much you've earned, and when you hover over the small exclamation mark behind 'glint earned' you can see the details on how your earnings are determined.
As you can see in my info box, I have a small boost from a starting win streak and I played a promo card in my battle as well. On top of that my guild gives me a small boost and because I own 5 land plots, my title earns me another 5%... it's small numbers but compounding works great, and small drops make a shower!

You need SPS to start earning.

Before you get started in the vast world of Praetoria, you need to have some Splinter Shards, or SPS staked to your account, you can either buy them in various ways but when you're new I recommend you to rent them first, small steps my friend, or you'll drown. 😅

You can find the SPS Rental screen in the Market > SPS Rental menu, it's pretty cheap to rent SPS at this time!
How it works is you set up a bid with the amount of SPS you want to rent and make a price you want to pay for it, you rent SPS for 7 days at a time.

So, how much SPS you need you ask? That depends on where you want to play, as a newer player I recommend to start easy in Bronze or Silver Modern League, in the picture below you can see how much SPS you need for each league.

As you can see in the list, to earn 'normal' you need 11.253 SPS staked in Silver 1, so with a Bronze or Silver deck it's nonsense to rent 50.000 SPS because it's a waste of your money, also, at the start of the season you won't probably be able to reach Silver 1 so for the first 7 days you could also just rent half of the SPS needed, it only saves you a little bit of money, but it IS money you can spend elsewhere, little drops... remember? 😉

On to the spending part!

So this was the basics on how to start earning, of course you also need as set of cards but that's not what this post is about 😁

Depending in which league you play, how much you play and how well you do you'll earn a small amount of glint on every win, on a low level bronze account from my daughter I occasionally play, currently in bronze 2, I earn about 58 glint for every win, So, how to spend your glint also depends on how much glint you earn of course!

The way I do this is not touch my glint for the entire season, and at the season end I see how much I earned in total and how I'm going to divide it.

Basically there are two ways you can spend your glint in Gwens glint shop, you can find it in the earned glint box on your dashboard.

image.png

When you click it, a new screen appears with different options, either you can buy rarity draws, basically guaranteed draws for common, rare, epics or legendary cards or you can try your luck with buying chests, however, only 33% of the chests contain cards BUT you can draw multiple cards in one chest, with rarity draws you get only 1 card, you can see the details for every option by hovering over the 'i' icon.

image.png

As I said before, it all depends on how much glint you have at the end of the season how you are going to spend it, I recommend going for rarity draws.

I play my main and alt account on a regular base and when I have more time I play my daughter's account sometimes too.

  • My main earns anywhere from 100.000 to 150.000 every season in total (glint balance and season end loot combined)
  • My alt earns anywhere from 30.000 to 60.000
  • My daughter's account earns anywhere from 1000 to 5000

So these are very different numbers! As a starting player earning below 20.000 glint total, I would recommend first focusing on common and rare draws, they're cheaper and contain powerful cards as well, first grow your account and climb the leagues, in time you will see you get better, win more and earn more.

When you get more experienced and you start earning more and you get in the numbers my alt account is earning you can start buying some epic draws each season as well, maybe by that time you already have what you need for the commons, so you can stop buying them and start buying 3 or 4 epics each season, legendary's are way too expensive for smaller players, I ignore them on my alt account, hopefully I get a lucky shot some time in the chests I earn on league promotions.

When you're starting to earn even more you can spread your earnings out even more, the way I am doing on my main account.
And you might think this is a lot of glint my main account, the big boys earn ten times as much! 😅
When my main earned well above 100.000, so more in the region of 130.000 I buy 1 legendary draw every season, but so far it's been quite disappointing and I even drew a double 😅
That's why my focus is more on the other rarity draws.

Find a guild!

As I said before, joining a guild gives you a small glint boost on every win, on top of that your guild members can help you with advice or lend you cards to improve your battles with.
Together you can join guild to guild tournaments known as brawls in which you can earn more SPS and tokens calles merits you can buy powerful Gladiator cards with, so joining a guild is a MUST in my opinion!

When you're in need of a guild, reply in this message! My guild can use some fresh active people 😀

So... that's it! I hope you learned a thing or two reading this post, if you require more assistance, reply as well and I'll help you get started 🙂

Since this is Splinterlands content, consider posting it in Solinterlands community as opposed to city of Neoxian

Good. We all have lizard brain; just need to train and redirect it properly

the parts of the brain that humans share with lizards, and that control basic survival functions and motivations.

The lizard brain is responsible for:
breathing, balance, coordination, feeding, mating, and defense
