SPS Governance Proposal - Burn NFTy Decks and DEC

The purpose of this proposal is to determine a course of action for the packs and cards remaining on the accounts that were used to create the NFTy decks since NFTy is no longer in service and the cards and packs are no longer in use.

If this proposal passes, all cards and packs owned by the @nftybronze and @nftysilver accounts will be burned to remove them from the circulating supply of the Chaos Legion set, which is in line with previous statements made by the former CEO at the time of launching the NFTy lending initiative. Any DEC received from burning the cards will be burnt as well.

What do the accounts hold:

  • 60,132 unopened packs of Chaos legion cards on @nftybronze
  • 36,070,860 cp worth of Chaos Legion cards on @nftybronze
  • 31,316,870 cp worth of Chaos Legion cards on @nftysilver

Voting yes for this. I would have liked them to be used for the company bots but since they will be able to use ghost cards, I'm good with burning these.

Yes vote for me. But I would love to hear any counter arguments as to why we shouldn't do this.

Personally I don't see the point, this isn't going to do anything except take away options in the future.
It's not going to change the short term supply or demand for these cards since they aren't on the market, delegated or otherwise available to any player. So no near term improvement in CL market dynamics. It's just a "It feels good to do something" proposal...

Personally I think anything that gives the DAO options is a valuable tool in the toolkit. And since burning means that we can't ever make them available in the future, if the situation ever changes... then burning these means the DAO will never have that tool. I generally prefer "giving to DAO" over most burning mechanics.

I don't expect much of anything other than removing the uncertainty. It's one of the reasons I don't particularly like the DAO holding packs either. That said, it is what it is and people want the vote. Here's the vote.

The DAO doesn't own the cards. The company does. These cards were set to burn but saved to great protest which was only quieted when Aggy said the cards would never leave company custody, they'd never be used for anything else, and he'd "burn the damn cards" if the NFTY experiment wasn't a quick net positive. Everyone who was for the NFTY experiment was telling everyone who was against it that it is a "no brainer" because either it brings in tons of new players or they'd be quickly burned anyway.

I understand the cards aren't doing anything now so they don't have much effect on values but keeping them around so we can maybe use them later for something that will have an effect on values keeps them around as a danger just as much as it does a tool. Let's face it, we haven't seen many moves from the DAO or the team that haven't just caused us to lose more value in the past few years.

It was promised that they'd be burned after a few months. It's almost 2 years later. These should have been burned a long time ago without a vote. But if a vote is what's required, I'm voting to burn them.

Let it burn! Rather get it out of the system than having surprises later :-D

I strongly agree with this proposal. NFTY was an interesting idea but was not executed properly. Every time I tried using the service I was unsuccesful.

Does this need a vote? I thought it was already approved with the initial agreement?

That said, this is a clear NO for me. There must be better options.

I would rather the DAO get them, not sure of the agreement that would be needed to make that fair.

I think wholesaling them off with a soulbound period to up and coming new players services might be fun.

I have not put much though into it, but burning just doesnt make sense to me.

Might as well. Will it help anything? Probably not. Will it hurt anything? Definitely not. I didn't have to think about it much.

Who is going to perform this action?
I've got impression, that the team is overwhelmed with gazillions of "quick", "small", "easy to implement" proposals instead of delivering real content. Every "obvious" proposals postpone real content.

Burning Splinterlands NFT cards and DEC (Dark Energy Crystals) should be carefully considered due to several reasons:

  1. Economic Value: NFT cards and DEC have economic value within the Splinterlands ecosystem. Burning them effectively destroys this value, which might not be beneficial unless done for strategic reasons such as reducing supply to increase scarcity.

  2. Community Perception: Burning NFTs can sometimes be seen as controversial within communities that value digital ownership and sustainability. It could lead to backlash or negative sentiment among players and collectors.

  3. Long-term Strategy: Burning cards or DEC should align with a long-term strategy that enhances the overall gameplay experience or economy of Splinterlands. Without clear strategic goals, burning could be seen as wasteful.

  4. Alternative Uses: There might be alternative uses for NFT cards and DEC in the future, such as in-game events, promotions, or future features that could add value. Burning them eliminates these possibilities.

  5. Environmental Impact: While digital, NFTs still consume energy during creation and transactions. Burning them en masse without purpose could be seen as environmentally irresponsible if not justified by significant benefits.

I am not the sharpest pencil in the box so there are probably other reasons than the ones stated above. Just thought I would add my two cents to the conversation.
